This thesis reports on outstanding work in two main subfields of quantum information science: one involves the quantum measurement problem, and the other concerns quantum simulation. The thesis proposes using a polarization-based displaced Sagnac-type interferometer to achieve partial collapse measurement and its reversal, and presents the first experimental verification of the nonlocality of the partial collapse measurement and its reversal. All of the experiments are carried out in the linear optical system, one of the earliest experimental systems to employ quantum communication and quantum information processing. The thesis argues that quantum measurement can yield quantum entanglement recovery, which is demonstrated by using the frequency freedom to simulate the environment. Based on the weak measurement theory, the author proposes that white light can be used to precisely estimate phase, and effectively demonstrates that the imaginary part of the weak value can be introduced by means of weak measurement evolution. Lastly, a nine-order polarization-based displaced Sagnac-type interferometer employing bulk optics is constructed to perform quantum simulation of the Landau-Zener evolution, and by tuning the system Hamiltonian, the first experiment to research the Kibble-Zurek mechanism in non-equilibrium kinetics processes is carried out in the linear optical system.

Another book on Quantum Optics? or Quantum Information? Well, not - actly. A more descriptive title might be: “A guided tour through basic qu- tum mechanics, quantum optics and quantum information”. Even better, a few words on its origin and our motivation for undertaking the task might be useful to the potential reader in deciding whether to turn the pages beyond this preface. For more than ten years now, a graduate course on quantum optics has been taught in the physics department of the University of Crete. Spanning two semesters, it originally consisted of a collection of topics representative of what can be found in the numerous by now excellent books on quantum optics. Over the last four years or so,however, the course acquired a gradually increasing segment of what is broadly referred to as quantum information, whichatthispointisapproximatelyhalfofthematerial.Inevitably, thetopics on standard quantum optics had to be reduced or compressed accordingly.

What Is Quantum Radar A hypothetical kind of remote sensing called quantum radar is based on quantum mechanical phenomena like the uncertainty principle and quantum entanglement. This technology is still in its conceptual stages. In the broadest sense, a quantum radar can be understood as a device that operates in the microwave range and takes advantage of quantum properties, either from the perspective of the radiation source or the output detection. As a result, it is superior to a classical radar in terms of its performance capabilities. One strategy involves making advantage of input quantum correlations in conjunction with an appropriate interferometric quantum detection at the receiver. This is an example of such method. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Quantum radar Chapter 2: Quantum teleportation Chapter 3: Quantum entanglement Chapter 4: Quantum key distribution Chapter 5: Timeline of quantum computing and communication Chapter 6: Local hidden-variable theory Chapter 7: Spontaneous parametric down-conversion Chapter 8: Homodyne detection Chapter 9: Quantum network Chapter 10: Optical parametric oscillator Chapter 11: Quantum eraser experiment Chapter 12: Delayed-choice quantum eraser Chapter 13: NOON state Chapter 14: Quantum imaging Chapter 15: Quantum lithography Chapter 16: Quantum sensor Chapter 17: Ghost imaging Chapter 18: Cat state Chapter 19: Quantum illumination Chapter 20: Quantum microscopy Chapter 21: Optical cluster state (II) Answering the public top questions about quantum radar. (III) Real world examples for the usage of quantum radar in many fields. (IV) 17 appendices to explain, briefly, 266 emerging technologies in each industry to have 360-degree full understanding of quantum radar' technologies. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of quantum radar.

Semiconductors are at the heart of modern living. Almost everything we do, be it work, travel, communication, or entertainment, all depend on some feature of semiconductor technology. Comprehensive Semiconductor Science and Technology, Six Volume Set captures the breadth of this important field, and presents it in a single source to the large audience who study, make, and exploit semiconductors. Previous attempts at this achievement have been abbreviated, and have omitted important topics. Written and Edited by a truly international team of experts, this work delivers an objective yet cohesive global review of the semiconductor world. The work is divided into three sections. The first section is concerned with the fundamental physics of semiconductors, showing how the electronic features and the lattice dynamics change drastically when systems vary from bulk to a low-dimensional structure and further to a nanometer size. Throughout this section there is an emphasis on the full understanding of the underlying physics. The second section deals largely with the transformation of the conceptual framework of solid state physics into devices and systems which require the growth of extremely high purity, nearly defect-free bulk and epitaxial materials. The last section is devoted to exploitation of the knowledge described in the previous sections to highlight the spectrum of devices we see all around us. Provides a comprehensive global picture of the semiconductor world Each of the work's three sections presents a complete description of one aspect of the whole Written and Edited by a truly international team of experts
