Eleonora has a childlike heart in a wonderful mature woman’s body, a delicate and sensitive soul of those who have had much less than they feel to deserve from life. Abandoned at a very early age by a father never known, torn by grief for her mother’s death, who died after a long illness, she dreams of finding redemption in a man who can love her as she is, without hypocrisy, immune to sterile jealousies and earthly misunderstandings. At the age of thirty-four and working as a professional escort, Eleonora turns into an involuntary and lucid witness to human madness and indifference: in her tastefully furnished alcove, in the sensual red light of a bedside table lamp, depraved, hasty, ambiguous men alternate, prisoners of their shyness and selfishness, unable to give a moment of peace to her tormented and disappointed soul. She has no family, children, trusted friends: she can only offer her wonderfully smooth body, her refined ability to make love in all its empty and exciting shades… When her existence seems to be hopelessly prisoner of the useless daily routine, she knows Manlio, a mature and protective figure who, with his calm and deep voice, manages to mitigate her innermost anxieties and finally make her feel free. He’s nineteen years older than her, divorced since long time with a dependent daughter, partner with a prestigious car dealership, Eleonora actually knows very little about him, but she is convinced that his reticence, his fascinating halo of mystery is just a small price on the way to coveted happiness. One evening like many others Manlio arrives very late for an appointment, with his face completely swollen: will it be only an inappropriate chance or are human nature and love going to show her their darkest side? With Eleonora’s character Andrea Oliveti finds his dearest themes again, describing extremely in detail and with power an extraordinary woman’s innermost life, a prostitute almost for an inscrutable joke of fate. In her we relive the doubts and contradictions of an existence always at the limit, the slow and inexorable succession of the seasons, the enigmatic plans of the Almighty, the infinite thrill of a barefoot walk on a moonlit beach. In her colourful world, studded with crazy, tender and improbable characters, nothing is exactly as it appears, but to find it out we will have to hold our breath until the last, unmissable emotion…

Giacomo Rinaldi is a brilliant man, an Art lover that sees his life vanishing with the slow inflexibility of a river flowing in a distant landscape. He loses his wife Barbara, his former wife, his friends and the ones he loved the most and he finds himself opposite his life turning point before starting a slow fall into the hell of his restless soul. He might give up, leave his loved and sometimes distant God, let days pass in the same way, in an everlasting present made up of insignificant useless things without joy; or he might find the strength to struggle and the pleasure of living again, enjoy the sunset and the company and the comfort of that moon which is the protagonist of the novel in its immutable passion. Through the most famous social networking site he meets Lara Capitani, a very beautiful and seemingly fragile woman and his life flourishes again: in her skin smelling of peach, in her fine hair like silk and honey he sees a clear sky after a storm and a new thought comes to him in a flash. A toast in the moonlight, a gaze of passionate empathy, a walk hand in hand and that mosaic that had fallen apart almost magically comes back to its original shape as in the most valuable paintings. Giacomo goes beyond his past life and nothing seems to be precluded to him: his future is a tapestry of which he can decide its colours and weaving, death is a distant mystery, neither feared nor desired. At this point the moon is deeply in his soul and its reflections will be sometimes sweet, other times strong and violent but they will indissolubly belong to him: finally he is the master of his life and this time, after a long time, after so many doubts and so much suffering he will not let it go any longer and he will lead his life towards a future all to be discovered or maybe it is already written in the eyes of that adorable smart woman that celebrated for him the everlasting and unfathomable Rite of Love...

During the day he is a respected art dealer, refined in taste and independent in judgements; during the night his sleep is tormented by awful ghosts that emerge relentlessly from the depths of his restless soul. After separation from his wife, the end of a love that he considered unshakable, Stefano’s life undergoes a profound transformation: on his horizon only threatening clouds full of mystery, his ship at the mercy of a storm no longer finds a safe landing place and wanders aimlessly in the undertow of existence. Is this whatever was worth living, loving and suffering? Is this the path paved with thorns that the mocking destiny had prepared for him? He meets suffering, a mix of impotence, pain and rage that he believed that the good God had reserved only for others: every day he saw it in other people’s lives, sympathetic and absent-minded, without understanding that one day it could touch him too. Only the trusted Onofrio was at his side, an irreproachable work colleague and brilliant companion in the slow shipwreck of daily life: his endless eloquence, his total self-confidence and his almost motherly concern make him a precious bulwark against the ghosts that trouble him. In search of lost serenity, he will have to dig in the depths of his soul, to face the terrible creatures of the hellish sea he has inside, to find again that thread towards the exit from the invisible cage that encloses his upset existence. He will find comfort in Luana, a mature art lover he meets by chance at the art gallery, whose placid and reassuring love has for Stefano an almost cathartic effect: reflecting himself in her loving eyes is like being born again, being personified in the bucolic scenes of beloved painters, waking up in a meadow on a morning kissed by springlike sun. Life, beyond suffering and the horrible boredom of earthly existence, always peeps out as if it asked and deserved to be lived: everyone will find their own path without justice or apparent prize, towards a fate never taken for granted, that will involve everybody also those who seemed to be impenetrable at first glance. Love takes and love gives: everyone will have to seize their fleeting moment, to intercept beauty in the exact moment it reveals itself, to give finally sense to their incomprehensible wandering or to be crushed forever…
