Archetype Of The Absolute written by Sanford L. Drob and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-06-15 with categories.

In "Archetype of the Absolute: The Union of Opposites in Mysticism, Philosophy and Psychology," Sanford Drob traces the "problem of the opposites" in the history of ideas and develops the thesis that apparent oppositions in philosophy, including those that underlie competing paradigms in psychology, are complementary rather than contradictory. The doctrine of the complementarity and union of opposites underlies the mysticism of the Tao and the Kabbalah, the dialectical thinking of Hegel, the psychology of C.G. Jung, and various interpretations of quantum physics, and it has been spoken of as the "master archetype." In this intellectual tour de force, Drob draws upon thinkers from Heraclitus to Jacques Derrida and Slajov Zižek, to resolve metaphysical and psychological puzzles and reconcile a wide range of oppositions, including those between determinism and free-will, realism and idealism, reason and imagination, and theism and atheism. Drob reveals the significance of the doctrine of the union of opposites in the Kabbalah and other mystical traditions, provides a deep examination of Hegel's dialectical efforts to overcome "contradiction," and fully explores C. G. Jung's notion that "the self" is a "coincidence of opposites." He shows that a full conceptual analysis of competing paradigms in psychological theory and practice reveals them to be complementary and interdependent. Concluding chapters consider the fundamental oppositions between sign and signified, subject and object, and identity and difference, and explore the possibility (and limits) of a "rational-mystical" ascent to the "Absolute."

Archetypes written by Elémire Zolla and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-18 with Psychology categories.

Man is dominated by his archetypes; they mould not only his history but his dreams. But how are we to define and evaluate them? Is it perhaps possible for us to relate more creatively to them? Originally published in 1981, these are some of the questions raised by this title. To answer them the author gathered together a vast amount of material drawn from Eastern and Western traditions, from science, literature, art and poetry. The answers he puts forward are often highly original and will surely challenge many of our most cherished patterns of thought. There emerges from this book what can only be described as a global metaphysical system, yet the author’s language is not that of an ordinary metaphysical treatise, and what he writes offered new challenge and hope to those suffering from the despair and cynicism engendered by a great deal in modern society at the time. Zolla does not, however, advocate a return to earlier historical patterns, nor is he proposing a new Utopia, but rather offers us a brilliant series of lessons in the art of centring. In the words of Bernard Wall, writing in the Times Literary Supplement, Zolla’s ‘deep, polymathic probing of the terms of human existence makes it sensible to compare him with Simone Weil, while some of his conclusions about ultimate mysteries – expressed in signs, symbols and sacraments, the sense of which we have lost – will make us think of the later T. S. Eliot’.

"A departure at right angles to thinking in the modern Western world. An important, original work, that should get the widest possible hearing" (Iain McGilchrist, author of The Master and his Emissary) Middle Way Philosophy is not about compromise, but about the avoidance of dogma and the integration of conflicting assumptions. To rely on experience as our guide, we need to avoid the interpretation of experience through unnecessary dogmas. Drawing on a range of influences in Buddhist practice, Western philosophy and psychology, Middle Way Philosophy questions alike the assumptions of scientific naturalism, religious revelation and political absolutism, trying to separate what addresses experience in these doctrines from what is merely assumed. This Omnibus edition of Middle Way Philosophy includes all four of the volumes previously published separately: 1. The Path of Objectivity, 2. The Integration of Desire, 3. The Integration of Meaning, and 4. The Integration of Belief.

Time And Timelessness written by Angeliki Yiassemides and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-26 with Psychology categories.

Time and Timelessness examines the development of Jung's understanding of time throughout his opus, and the ways in which this concept has affected key elements of his work. In this book Yiassemides suggests that temporality plays an important role in many of Jung's central ideas, and is closely interlinked with his overall approach to the psyche and the cosmos at large. Jung proposed a profound truth: that time is relative at large. To appreciate the whole of our experience we must reach beyond causality and temporal linearity, to develop an approach that allows for multidimensional and synchronistic experiences. Jung’s understanding surpassed Freud's dichotomous approach which restricted timelessness to the unconscious; his time theory allows us to reach beyond the everyday time-bound world into a greater realm, rich with meaning and connection. Included in the book: -Jung’s time theory -the death of time -time and spatial metaphors -the role of time in precognition, telepathy and synchronicity -Unus mundus and time -a comparison of Freud’s and Jung’s time theories: temporal directionality, dimensionality, and the role of timelessness. This book is the first to explore time and timelessness in a systematic manner from a Jungian perspective, and the first to investigate how the concept of time affected the overall development of Jung's theory. It will be key reading for psychoanalytic scholars and clinicians, as well as those working in the field of phenomenological philosophy.
