Urban climate adaptation currently focusses mainly on hazards but often ignores opportunities which arise in both space and time. Opportunistic Adaptation provides a rationalized approach to mainstream measures for climate adaptation into urban renewal cycles. Adaptation opportunities are identified by projecting the lifespans of urban assets into the future to obtain an operational urban adaptation agenda for the future. Upscaling of the adaptation process is done by synchronizing the end-of-lifecycle of a group of assets to develop adaptation clusters that comprise multiple dwellings, infrastructure as well as public spaces. An extensive catalogue of adaptation measures for different scale-levels ensures flexibility in the type of measures that can be integrated. Sequencing the adaptation measures over long periods of time provides insight and flexibility in the long-term protection standards that can be achieved. By applying a design-centered approach, the potentials of obtaining co-benefits in the urban landscape are maximized. Potentials of clustering of nature-based solutions are being considered which ensures to maximize the delivery of ecosystem services. This research aims to assess \the adaptation potential of Bangkok, based on a case study area (Lat Krabang) by mapping the adaptation opportunities and flood vulnerability. The resulting outputs will contribute to the development of a flexible and inclusive FRM strategy.

Every two years, Archiprix International invites all university-level courses in the field of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture to select their best graduation projects and submit these for participation. This publication offers a representative selection of the projects submitted, including the nominees and winners chosen by an independent jury, and the favorites chosen by the participants themselves, supplemented by a representative selection that offers a picture of the range of designs and the graphical distribution across all continents. In addition, the book contains the personal data of the projects' designers. The full range of submissions can be viewed on the accompanying DVD. Archiprix International was first organized in Rotterdam in 2001. The 2011 edition is organized in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), School of Architecture + Planning.

In the ten years since Architectuurcentrale Thijs Asselbergs was founded, the practice's open structure and laboratory-type approach, its concern for all levels of planning and its love of detail have resulted in top-quality architecture and urban design. Realized projects include housing developments (De Staten in The Hague, Dominicaan in Nijmegen, Henkenshage in Amsterdam) and interiors for the Wagamama restaurant chain in the Netherlands and Belgium. aTA's design for the jazz auditorium in the new Muziekpaleis Vredenburg in Utrecht is to be realized in 2007. Besides the practice's own output, ATA IndeX gives exhaustive descriptions of the social activities of its founder Thijs Asselbergs. He has been City Architect to Haarlem and was the founder and editor-in-chief of the quarterly magazine Items. Since 1995 he has been chairman of the, whose purpose is to bring the best Dutch graduation projects of that year to a wide national and international audience. All in all, the book shows how a functional architecture firm and an active social role can be mutually stimulating.
