Der andere Halfdan und seine Tochter Yngeborg; Yngeborg war schön von Antlitz und weise von Verstand und die vorzüg liebste der Königstöchter. Nun war dort ein Strand, der erstreckte sich westlich in den Meerbusen hinein, darauf stand eine grosse Besitzung, die war genannt Baldurshain; darin war eine F rie densstatt und ein grosser Hof, und ein grosses Gehege darum darin waren viele Götterbilder, doch wurde Baldur am meisten verehrt; und ihm wurde so eifrig von den heidnischen Männern gedient, dass ihm kein Schaden geschehen durfte, weder an Einkäntien noch seinen Dienern; und kein Umgang durfte da zwischen Männern und Weibern stattfinden. Nun stand jenseits des Meerbusens ein Gut, das hiess Frammös, da wohnte ein Mann, der hiess Thorstein und war Wikings Sohn und sein Hof galt so viel, wie ein Königcsitz. Mit seinem Weihe hatte er einen Sohn, welcher F rith jof hiess, der war aller Männer grösster und stärkster und wohl erfahren' in Künsten schon in seiner Jugend und so freundlich, dass Alle ihm Gutes wünschten. Den Franzosen eigentlich einen Mangel an wirk lichen Volksdi_chtern haben. Ich verstehe namlich unter Volks dichter einen solchen, der unmittelbar aus dem Volke selbst hervorgegangen ist und ihm noch angehört, der also nicht erst durch gelehrte Kenntnisse oder wissenschaftliche Erziehung zu einem solchen sich herangebildet hat; nicht aber einen, der aus gelehrten oder Wissenschaftlichen Kreisen herabsteigt in das Volk wie Fritz Reuter B., und m seinem _(des Volkes) Sinne, und seiner Ausdrucksweise seine Gedanken in poetische Form kleidet. Diese Letztem waren nach meiner Anschauung keine eigentlichen Volksdichter; es scheinen mir vielmehr nur die jenigen dazu berechtigt, diesen Namen zu fuhren, die wirklich und unmittelbar aus dem Volke hervorgegangen, dazu veran lasst wurden.
