El presente volumen nos permite reflexionar sobre la memoria en América Latina y los hechos ocurridos en nuestra historia reciente. Para ello, el libro instala una serie de interrogantes. Primero los porqués de recordar y su antítesis, los porqués del olvido; luego, los problemas asociados a los contextos en los que recordamos, que influyen en la configuración de nuestros recuerdos; y también los modos en que recordamos, pero sobre todo las formas en que comunicamos nuestros recuerdos. Asimismo, este texto reflexiona sobre la importancia de los archivos de derechos humanos, las posibilidades de acercarse a un pasado doloroso, pero necesario para no olvidar que algo nos ocurrió como cuerpo social. En ese sentido, el rol jugado por la sociedad civil ha resultado fundamental: ella ha sido el actor más dinámico en el proceso de construcción de una ética y una política de memoria, y ha permitido que desde los Archivos hablen las voces de la verdad y la justicia, y no las del olvido o el interés corporativo.

Since the end of the last dictatorship in 1983, Argentina’s visual artists and art-activists have been central to campaigns to demand the criminal prosecution of those initially granted amnesty and to a variety of commemorative projects. In The Art of Post-Dictatorship: Ethics and Aesthetics in Transitional Argentina Vikki Bell examines this involvement and intervention. She argues that the problematics that arise within the aesthetic realm cannot be understood solely through an art-historical approach; instead, they must be understood as a constitutive part of a broader collective endeavour. In this sense, the ‘art’ of post-dictatorship is not something that belongs to art or the artists themselves, but is about how the subjectivities and imaginations of new generations are constituted and entwined with questions of response, ethics and justice. APM – Archeologia Postmedievale, 27, 2023. Contemporary Archaeology, politics of memory and local communities: a tricky mixture? (Genova, November 28th-29th 2022) This special issue is the result of a workshop held at the University of Genoa in November 2022 and organized by the Laboratorio di Archeologia e Storia Ambientale (LASA) in the context of a project devoted to the archaeological transformation of the rural world during the late 19th and the 20th c. In the framework of post-medieval archaeologies, during the last two decades the study of the contemporary era emerged as an original field of research. Among the multiple topics tackled in the archaeological study of the contemporary era, the abovementioned relationship and its consequences for the archaeology of the contemporary era seemed a neglected topic and one which, we thought, deserved particular reflection. Moreover, the emotional proximity of the events analyzed by contemporary archaeology and its material dimension makes it an ideal arena for a reflection on the process of formation of local identities and historical narratives which may stimulate original debates and heritage concerns. This is, for us, one of the bets of the archaeologies which address this period, that is, that the proximity of time makes it easier to establish a lively dialogue with contemporary society, stressing participation and the public dimension of archaeology. Thus, the fundamental topic developed in the present special issue is the entanglements between the archaeology of the contemporary era, the politics of memory they foster and the local communities in which both are contextualized.
