"This book goes beyond helping one to understand addiction and the dysfuctional family. It also helps to describe the need for a 'new profession' of therapy that is beyond the profssion of medicine. It has been my experience that people who have spiritual experiences often tell me that neither doctors or inisters have been able to help them understand these experiences. Karen is a new breed of therapist who is dealing with a vast range of experiences, which have enormous impact on people's lives. I highly recommend her book." Dr. Raymond E. Since the early twentieth century, scholars have researched leadership and it is one of the most researched topics of our time. Understanding how to be a strong leader and what makes a good leader is something that we continue to strive to understand. Research ponders various positive leadership models such as transformational, servant, authentic, charismatic, situational and ethical leadership to name a few. Yet, we find that a small number of our leaders are truly transformational. While scholars continue to provide examples of positive and influential leaders, we still struggle to understand what a dysfunctional leader is. Practitioners and followers are quick to identify a leader that is a nightmare, yet they can’t name what type of dysfunction that leader possesses. Day in and day out, we struggle with these leaders and how to intervene when dysfunctional behavior arises. This is most evident with recent scandals that have plagued the media involving characters such as Bernie Madoff, Dennis Kozlowski, Tyco, Enron’s Kenneth Lay and Jeff Skilling. It is vital to understand the importance of dysfunctional leadership and its impact on organizations, followers and society. The recent literature focuses on the psychology of dysfunctional leadership and the destruction of organizations. Little has been written in relation to the characteristics, traits and behaviors of dysfunctional leaders. In addition, little has been included on how to deal with this types of behavior within organizations. Individual books have been written on each of these types of characteristics, but no one book has been written that focuses on all of these characteristics and studies the subtle differences of these behaviors, interventions that can be employed to address this type of behavior and how to recognize the impact on our organizations. Understanding and Recognizing Dysfunctional Leadership will be of interest to professionals and researchers in this field.

The Evolution Of Personality And Individual Differences written by Dr. David M. Buss and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-11-24 with Psychology categories.

Capturing a scientific change in thinking about personality and individual differences that has been building over the past 15 years, this volume stands at an important moment in the development of psychology as a discipline. Rather than viewing individual differences as merely the raw material upon which selection operates, the contributing authors provide theories and empirical evidence which suggest that personality and individual differences are central to evolved psychological mechanisms and behavioral functioning. The book draws theoretical inspiration from life history theory, evolutionary genetics, molecular genetics, developmental psychology, personality psychology, and evolutionary psychology, while utilizing the theories of the "best and the brightest" international scientists working on this cutting edge paradigm shift. In the first of three sections, the authors analyze personality and the adaptive landscape; here, the authors offer a novel conceptual framework for examining "personality assessment adaptations." Because individuals in a social environment have momentous consequences for creating and solving adaptive problems, humans have evolved "difference-detecting mechanisms" designed to make crucial social decisions such as mate selection, friend selection, kin investment, coalition formation, and hierarchy negotiation. In the second section, the authors examine developmental and life-history theoretical perspectives to explore the origins and development of personality over the lifespan. The third section focuses on the relatively new field of evolutionary genetics and explores which of the major evolutionary forces--such as balancing selection, mutation, co-evolutionary arms races, and drift--are responsible for the origins of personality and individual differences. Existing as a seminal work in the newly emerging evolutionary psychology field, this book is a "must-read" for anyone invested in the development of psychology as a field.

God is so, so good! He never stops showering his love, his mercy, and his compassion on us in so many, many ways. The Lord gives, and I take. It doesn’t sound too good for us, does it? I could spend the rest of my life writing about what God gives to each one of us even to those who do not walk with the Lord. His hand is continually pouring out. Most of us do not think about it, or we ignore it. And if we do, we look at it with very dim-sighted eyes. Much of our time is spent on the expectations of what we want from him. But he gives, and he gives, and he gives. And the reality is, we take, and we take, and we take. We take all that God supplies with very little thankfulness to him. We are greedy, and we expect so much, and the truth is, we are so undeserving. Can we ever pay God back? Never...never...never. But we can recognize, appreciate, embrace, and be thankful for what he has done, is doing, and will do by honoring him and living our lives in his love and in service to him, worshipping and giving him all the glory and bringing to light his word to those who don’t know him. I stand in awe and amazement at the Lord’s grace for humankind. He holds all together for us. Be brought back to the beauty, the awe, and the wonder of God! May we change the casualness in our hearts and minds that we take toward him and begin to develop a view of his awesome mercy and grace. Join me in plunging into the depths of his goodness.

Freeing The Oppressed written by Ron Clark and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-09-01 with Religion categories.

When Jesus spoke at his local synagogue he boldly proclaimed that he was the one sent to free those who were oppressed. He came to provide hope, peace, and safety to those suffering in the world. When he left this earth, his followers were left with the task of continuing this ministry. Statistics suggest that in America one in four women has experienced physical violence in an intimate relationship. Dating violence, intimate-partner violence, and child abuse rank as some of our nation's largest problems. Men are also being abused by intimate partners, parents, or care providers at increasing rates. The statistic is even more alarming worldwide. Unfortunately, these statistics represent only reported incidents. The rates of verbal, emotional, and spiritual abuse are even higher. In addition, countless women are encouraged by clergy to return to their abusive spouses. The faith community, while called by God to free the oppressed, has been slow to respond to this sin against humanity. Few seminaries offer quality domestic-violence-prevention training for clergy. However, clergy still continue to be sought for help from the community and as advocates for victims of domestic violence. A partnership between the church and community (locally and abroad) is necessary if we wish to transform humans caught in this form of oppression. In Setting the Captives Free Ron Clark proposed a theology of addressing domestic violence and its application for clergy. Freeing the Oppressedis a book that seeks to condense Clark's previous work into a readable form for those seeking spiritual answers concerning abuse and batterer intervention, and for helpers of those caught in the cycle of family violence. It is also designed as an outreach for those seeking help from the faith community.

Professor Susan Greenfield argues persuasively that our individuality is under the microscope as never before; now more then ever we urgently need to look at what we want for ourselves as individuals and for our future society. ID is an exploration of what it means to be human in a world of rapid change, a passionately argued wake-up call and an inspiring challenge to embrace creativity and forge our own identities.
