Aulus Gellius originated the modern use of 'classical' and 'humanities'. His Attic Nights, so named because they began as the intellectual pastime of winter evenings spent in a villa outside Athens, are a mine of information on many aspects of antiquity and a repository of much early Latin literature which would otherwise be lost; he took a particular interest in questions of grammar and literary style. The whole work is interspersed with interesting personal observations and vignettes of second-century life that throw light on the Antonine world. In this, the most comprehensive study of Gellius in any language, Dr Holford-Strevens examines his life, his circle of acquaintances, his style, his reading, his scholarly interests, and his literary parentage, paying due attention to the text, sense, and content of individual passages, and to the use made of him by later writers in antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and more recent times. l projecte contempla la redacció d’una història de la matemàtica grega en quatre volums. Cadascun dels volums constarà de dues parts: a) un corpus històric i b) traduccions al català de textos grecs que constitueixen la base del corpus. El primer volum cobreix el període que va de Tales i Pitàgores a Plató i Aristòtil. Conté: a) quatre capítols amb una contextualització històrica i filosòfica de l’època, i b) tres apèndixs amb les traduccions de més d’un centenar de textos, els més extensos dels quals són el Tractat de les lúnules d’Hipòcrates de Quios i el text aritmètic contingut en La República de Plató. El segon volum contindrà una adaptació anotada i comentada dels Elements d'Euclides. El tercer volum cobrirà la matemàtica grega del segle III aC amb Euclides, Apol·loni i Arquímedes, amb textos d'Euclides diferents dels Elements, textos d'Arquimedes i d'Apol·loni, D'Eratòstenes i d'Aristarc de Samos. El quart volum cobrirà la resta de la matemàtica grega fins a la fi del segon període de l’Escola d’Alexandria, al segle IV dC, amb la mort d’Hipàtia. La part principal de les traduccions constarà de l’Aritmètica de Diofant.
