Die Straßen von Berlin Arno Fischer (1927-2011) nimmt einen bedeutenden Platz in der deutschen Fotografie des 20. Jahrhunderts ein. Während seiner gesamten Karriere arbeitete er in den verschiedensten fotografischen Genres: Er zeigte Mode in den Straßen osteuropäischer Städte, lichtete aber auch gewöhnliche Bürger*innen des Ostblocks und ihren Alltag ab. Seine Reisen führten ihn u. a. nach Äquatorialguinea, Indien, in die Sowjetunion und die Vereinigten Staaten, wo er natürlich immer seine Kamera dabeihatte. Wenn er mit dieser nicht durch die Straßen streifte, war er aktives Mitglied von DIREKT, einer Gruppe von Fotografen - 1965 in Ostberlin gegründet -, die in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren wesentlich zur Differenzierung der visuellen Kultur Ostdeutschlands beigetragen haben. Arno Fischer pflegte mit seiner Frau, der Fotografin Sibylle Bergemann, zudem Kontakte zur internationalen Fotoszene. Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson oder René Burri kamen immer wieder gerne zu einer Stippvisite in ihre Wohnung am Schiffbauerdamm. Arno Fischer war auch leidenschaftlicher Dozent, der zunächst an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig, nach dem Fall der Mauer dann an der Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie und Gestaltung in Berlin mit Student*innen intensiven Austausch pflegte. The late, great German photographer Sibylle Bergemann (1941-2010) always pursued her own artistic path. Even her earliest works, for the East German fashion magazine Sibylle, were like brilliant flares of color amid the uniform Socialist gray. Her later portraits, photojournalism, and travel photography--most of them in color--continued to concentrate on the realities of life, and were printed in leading magazines around the world. Bergemann's Polaroids occupied a very special, personal place in her oeuvre. In these pictures, the artist captured things that are basically impossible to catch--the beautiful moment that will not linger. This moment is as temporary as the medium in which the contours are shown.
