Powerfully persuasive and thought-provoking, Ending the Pursuit asks us to reimagine sexuality, romance and gender without the borders imposed by society. How did asexual identity form? What is aromanticism? How does agender identity function? Researcher and writer Michael Paramo explores these misunderstood experiences, from the complex challenge of coming out to navigating the western lens of attraction. Expertly mapping their history, Paramo traces the emergence of vital online communities to the origins of the Victorian binaries that still restrict us today. With a groundbreaking blend of memoir and poetry, online articles and discussions, Ending the Pursuit is a much-needed addition to the cultural conversation. It encourages us to end the search for ‘normalcy’ and gives voice to an often-misunderstood community. 'Important . . . Paramo refuses to take for granted the normalized ideas we are fed around how relationships should work and what they should look like' Dr. Ela Przybyło, Illinois State University

In this entertaining and accessible exploration of love, Oxford anthropologist Dr Anna Machin dives into the science behind the myriad types of love that exist in the world, including romantic love, parental love, friendships, love for pets, football teams, religious love and even love for our smartphones. Through original research brought to life by interviews and case studies, and encompassing such fascinating areas as polyamorous relationships, parasocial (love for a celebrity) and sacred loves, this book argues that it is time to stop putting romantic love on a pedestal. By exploring the science that illuminates the benefits of all our different close relationships, Dr Anna Machin encourages us to reconsider the importance of love in our own lives, to interrogate our own experiences, and to reconnect with the heart of what it really means to be human.

Transmedia Storytelling written by Jennifer Camden and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-14 with Literary Criticism categories.

This volume charts the evolution of Pemberley Digital’s transmedia adaptations of nineteenth-century novels in order to interrogate the uneasy relationship between transmedia storytelling and consumer culture. It first examines two Austen-centered films, Lost in Austen and Austenland, that present “immersive” Austen experiences that anticipate Pemberley Digital’s transmedia adaptations, bridging traditional film adaptations and transmedia’s participatory culture. Subsequent chapters turn to Pemberley Digital’s transmedia adaptations of Austen’s and Shelley’s novels to argue that, although such adaptations may appear feminist in their emphasis on female protagonists, their larger narratives expose a subtext of anxiety about unstable gender roles, financial vulnerability, and the undervaluation of career-specific skill sets, both for the characters and the production company itself. The study provides a robust theoretical framework within which to read transmedia adaptations of “classic literature,” illuminating both the potential of, and the challenges facing, digital and transmedia storytellers and participants.
