This is the story of my trip around the world with my two friends, Scott Ashby and Mark Nelson, after we completed our 2-year service as Mormon missionaries. I got the idea from my mission president, Ted Johnson, while driving with him across Kansas one night. It sounded like so much fun I quickly drafted Scott and Mark to go with me. We visited 25 countries in 88 days. We stayed in youth hostels and in nice hotels. We camped out in a park in Rome (where Nero used to kill the Christians) and slept out on the deck of a cruise ship as it sailed to Athens, Greece. We flew on Pan Am using their Around the World flight coupons (16 in all). The only rules were you could not backtrack and you had to return to your departure city within 80 days or the tickets expired. I lost all of my travel documents and tickets on a crowded street in Barcelona and left my backpack in a deli in Germany. I was pick-pocketed on the streets of Cairo and offered cocaine in Amsterdam. One of the greatest days of my life was the day I galloped on horseback across the lush, green hillsides of New Zealand. I threw coins into the Bangkok River and watched young children dive for them in the mucky brown water. In short, it was the adventure of a lifetime and I've now looked back on it for 35 years.

Playing The Game written by Mark Peel and has been published by eBook Partnership this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-20 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Of all games, cricket has long prided itself on its ethical traditions, but to modern sceptics the idea of cricket encapsulating a higher morality is actually something of a myth. Playing the Game? looks at the changing ethics of cricket, from its gentlemanly roots right up until the present day. After decades of sledging, intimidatory bowling, blatant gamesmanship and dissent, the MCC adopted 'The Spirit of Cricket' in 2000 in an attempt to reclaim the game's original ethos - but was it already too late? While the concept is a noble one, its impact has so far been limited, as award-winning cricket scribe Mark Peel explains. As well as looking back to the infamous Bodyline series of 1932/33, Peel also investigates the effects of Kerry Packer's World Series Cricket; takes the ICC to task on their failure to quell rowdy behaviour and gamesmanship; examines the double standards of Western cricketing nations towards Pakistan; and delves into the recent ball-tampering affair that has tainted Aussie cricket.

The Ancient Chinese World written by Terry Kleeman and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-03-24 with History categories.

Pangu, a god asleep inside a giant black egg for 18,000 years, wakes up to create the world. Liu Bang, the founder of a Chinese dynasty, begins his life as a peasant. Sun Tzu, a fearless war strategist, writes one of the most popular books of all time. These are just a few of the captivating figures you'll meet in The Ancient Chinese World. Terry Kleeman and Tracy Barrett use a rich variety of intriguing primary sources-turtle shells, clay pots, an ancient wall, folk songs, poetry, and more-to construct a lively history of the politicians, farmers, warriors, and philosophers who created and shaped the ancient Chinese world. They also show us the fascinating process of constructing the historical jigsaw puzzle. Archaeologists discover a 400,000-year-old skull near modern-day Beijing and determine that it is one of our earliest human ancestors. A scholar who is prescribed "dragon bones" to cure an illness realizes that the bones-which are actually turtle shells-contain ancient Chinese writing used to send messages to the gods. The fantastic discovery of Lady Hao's tomb reveals that in ancient China a powerful woman led soldiers into battle. The letters exchanged by two military leaders show not only how the Chinese invented the sword, but also how they used the kite as a military weapon. Using these ancient artifacts and writings, Kleeman and Barrett weave the dramatic story of rulers, writers, soldiers, and citizens who made up the fascinating and unique world of ancient China.
