Bringing art into one's life brings a sense of joy and contemplation. Art can bring even more: it can bring a sense of tranquility, empowerment, and emotional release, and it help you orient yourself within the world around you. The CREATIVITY CONNECTIONS book is designed to help you connect through artistic expression in order to promote wellness by bringing more beauty, and more appreciation for beauty, into everyday living. The creativity connections method explains how, regardless of your perceived skill or prior work in art, you can tap into your own creativity, and how you can encourage others, to explore emotions and experience. Engaging in a creative enterprise allows us to connect with our thoughts and our feelings as we contemplate not just the pictures we produce, but also our inner selves. And it enables us to connect with others as we each work on a project in a group or as we collaborate with others on a collective work. Ultimately, there is value in both the process and the product. The creativity connections approach offers a series of ideas and themes to inspire creativity. Art making can be deliberative or subliminal, with industry or without effort, with concentration or without focus. You'll learn how to interpret the work that you create, without judgment or presumption. And throughout, you'll gain insight into how the process and the product afford opportunities for self-growth. Art nurtures and sustains. It provides inspiration and solace. And it is a catalyst for connection with oneself and with others.

Everyone has a creative side. Not everyone has the opportunity to explore their creative selves within a safe, encouraging space where they can express themselves while being heard, seen, and accepted for exactly who they are in the present moment. HEALING, WELLNESS, AND EMPOWERMENT THROUGH ART AND RITUAL guides facilitators to provide just such an environment. Every art-making activity allows participants to use a variety of materials in their own unique way. This provides participants with confidence to be who they are and the understanding that there is no right or wrong way to move through the process. It is the process and the awareness that is gleaned throughout it that are important. This manual is designed for art therapists, expressive arts therapists, therapists, or facilitators for use in arts-based groups. This informative book will provide guidance and specific ideas in facilitating groups that give the participants a safe and sacred space within which to create and explore their inner selves. It contains six chapters, each of which walks the facilitator step by step through the whole process from start to finish of six group sessions. The group process is clearly laid out along with a list of materials necessary for each session. The group leader is introduced to the basic elements of ritual and mindfulness. In each of the main chapters there are opening rituals, clearing rituals, meditations, one creative art-making activity, a time for sharing, closing exercises, and finishes with evaluations. The group process draws participants into an inner focus for awareness, healing and well-being. The groups take place in a safe and peaceful atmosphere. The book also contains an extra chapter with meditations that can be used during the group process.

Over the past two decades, there has been a major increase in research into the effects of the arts on health and well-being, alongside developments in practice and policy activities in different countries across the WHO European Region and further afield. This report synthesizes the global evidence on the role of the arts in improving health and well-being, with a specific focus on the WHO European Region. Results from over 3000 studies identified a major role for the arts in the prevention of ill health, promotion of health, and management and treatment of illness across the lifespan. The reviewed evidence included study designs such as uncontrolled pilot studies, case studies, small-scale cross-sectional surveys, nationally representative longitudinal cohort studies, community-wide ethnographies and randomized controlled trials from diverse disciplines. The beneficial impact of the arts could be furthered through acknowledging and acting on the growing evidence base; promoting arts engagement at the individual, local and national levels; and supporting cross-sectoral collaboration.
