"Stepping back from the above analysis, it is helpful to ask whether the shift to a more individualistic conception of persons carries traction for those who do not share its religious underpinnings. Judeo-Christian personhood was grounded on the idea that all and only human beings are made in the image of God (imago dei); for contemporary secular philosophers, there seems to be no corollary justification for claiming that all and only human beings qualify as persons. Some contemporary Christians, such as Noonan, have sought to defend an exclusive moral status for human beings by arguing that possessing the human genetic code affords the secular underpinnings for such a position. Yet, this proposal was eventually rebuffed as 'speciesist.' 'Speciesism,' a term coined in the 1970s by Ryder and popularized by Singer, is the position that assigning moral standing on the basis of species membership is morally arbitrary"

Creative Arts Based Research In Aged Care written by Evonne Miller and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-30 with Social Science categories.
This timely book explores what it is like to live in an aged care home: the expectations that new residents and their families enter with, their relationships with fellow residents and formal caregivers, and how they approach, in different ways, the reality that this place is where they will die. Creative Arts-Based Research in Aged Care draws on an immersive semi-longitudinal four-year study and purposely privileges the voices and perspective of older residents. Using creative arts-based qualitative research methods, specifically participatory photography and research poetry, it demonstrates the experience of contemporary aged care from the perspective of those who matter most: older residents. Divided into three parts covering entering residential aged care, daily life in aged care and dying in aged care, the book stimulates debate and discussion about current practice, and the future of aged care in the context of rapid population ageing and care automation. It is essential reading for all scholars and students working in the fields of gerontology, social work, psychology, design, and nursing, particularly those tasked with redesigning aged care in the twenty-first century.

Art And Form written by Sam Rose and has been published by Penn State Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-05-10 with Art categories.
This important new study reevaluates British art writing and the rise of formalism in the visual arts from 1900 to 1939. Taking Roger Fry as his starting point, Sam Rose rethinks how ideas about form influenced modernist culture and the movement’s significance to art history today. In the context of modernism, formalist critics are often thought to be interested in art rather than life, a stance exemplified in their support for abstract works that exclude the world outside. But through careful attention to early twentieth-century connoisseurship, aesthetics, art education, design, and art in colonial Nigeria and India, Rose builds an expanded account of form based on its engagement with the social world. Art and Form thus opens discussions on a range of urgent topics in art writing, from its history and the constructions of high and low culture to the idea of global modernism. Rose demonstrates the true breadth of formalism and shows how it lends a new richness to thought about art and visual culture in the early to mid-twentieth century. Accessibly written and analytically sophisticated, Art and Form opens exciting new paths of inquiry into the meaning and lasting importance of formalism and its ties to modernism. It will be invaluable for scholars and enthusiasts of art history and visual culture.
