Storicamente, è sempre stata l’arte a raccontare l’identità dell’Italia: monumenti, palazzi, piazze, chiese e pale d’altare hanno contribuito a definire l’immagine del Bel Paese, creando un territorio unico al mondo. Nel XX secolo, però, il circolo virtuoso si è spezzato e dal secondo dopoguerra il Paese ha smesso di credere nell’arte come veicolo di identità. Ludovico Pratesi, insieme a Simone Ciglia e Chiara Pirozzi, tenta di rispondere a queste domande ripercorrendo l’arte italiana dal Trecento al Novecento per esaminare il valore identitario di alcuni grandi capolavori, dagli affreschi dei Lorenzetti nel Palazzo Pubblico di Siena al Vittoriano. L’analisi si sposta quindi sull’arte del Ventennio fascista, per poi concentrarsi sui due movimenti artistici italiani di maggiore rilevanza internazionale nel secondo Novecento, l’Arte Povera e la Transavanguardia. Arte come identità è un incoraggiamento ad affrontare il futuro con sguardo sereno e lungimirante.
