A state-of-the-art, reader-friendly reference on hand arthroplasty from renowned global experts Recent research suggests the lifetime risk of hand arthritis may be greater than 40%. Concurrently, advances in small joint arthroplasty have greatly improved the treatment and outcomes in patients following trauma or suffering from arthritis, joint stiffness, and instability of joints in the hand and wrist. Arthroplasty in Hand Surgery: FESSH Instructional Course Book 2020 provides in-depth coverage of the surgical reconstruction or replacement of these joints. Edited by renowned hand surgeons Stephan Schindele, Grey Giddins, and Philippe Bellemère, this unique resource features contributions from an international who's who of experts. Organized in five sections and 35 chapters, the generously illustrated book encompasses the full spectrum of modern arthroplasty techniques. Section one starts with discussions of the anatomy, biomechanics, and mode of action of the finger and thumb joints and concludes with an intriguing history of hand arthroplasty. Sections two to four cover the latest arthroplasty procedures to treat impaired joints of the fingers (including proximal interphalangeal and distal interphalangeal), thumb, and wrist, respectively. The last section discusses arthroplasty of the distal radioulnar joint. This highly practical resource is ideal for the review and reference of state-of-the-art arthroplasty techniques in hand surgery and essential reading for trainees and practicing orthopaedic surgeons and hand specialists.

Biomaterials In Hand Surgery written by Antonio Merolli and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-05 with Medical categories.

Biomaterials are used in many areas of medicine, particularly in surgery and d- tistry. In orthopedic surgery, total hip arthroplasty has been extremely successful, and has been called ‘the operation of the 20th century’. Total hip arthroplasty is r- tinely performed every day in most orthopedic departments. Over the last decades, many efforts have been made to better integrate the components within the recipient bones, to decrease the friction at the prosthetic interface, and to minimize wear. Minimally invasive procedures have been developed, and various designs are inte- ed to preserve as much as possible of the bone stock of young patients. By contrast, the clinical results have been less favorable after various hand and wrist joint replacements. Many early designs have failed, the clinical data of the current pr- theses are frequently quite limited, and there is often insufficient biomechanical information available, although trapezio-metacarpal arthroplasty in particular has become quite popular in recent years. In order to promote progress in hand and wrist arthroplasty, Antonio Merolli and Thomas J. Joyce have edited this lovely book, whose chapters discuss current research and recent advances in hand and wrist arthroplasty. The problems of metacarpophalangeal joint prostheses are particularly developed.

Arthroplasty Of The Upper Extremity written by Graham J. W. King and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-06-11 with Medical categories.

Arthroplasty of the upper extremity is an established surgical intervention in the management of arthritis of the elbow, wrist and hand. The anatomy, kinematics and demands of the elbow, wrist, thumb CMC, and finger MCP and PIP joints pose unique surgical challenges. Implant design considerations are important in providing a joint that mimics the native joints and maximizes survivorship. However, outcomes are less predictable in these upper extremity joints when compared to the hips and knees. Each joint also carries its own set of potential complications and salvage options for revision and failed arthroplasty. This unique text helps the orthopedic and hand surgeon understand the surgical approaches, unique anatomic considerations, and both the historical and current designs related to each respective joint, enabling the surgeon to better appreciate the benefits and limitations of each arthroplasty. Presenting the current state of the art, the seven sections proceed anatomically from the elbow to the fingers, with each section comprised of three thematic chapters discussing implant design considerations, primary arthroscopy techniques and revision arthroscopy techniques, including non-surgical options for treating these often difficult problems. This consistent approach, accompanied by plentiful figures, radiographs and intraoperative photos, ensures that this will be a user-friendly resource for orthopedic and hand surgeons, residents and trainees.

Reoperative Hand Surgery is a major contribution to the literature, offering a wide range of reoperative options for challenging problems that face the reconstructive hand surgeon after failed primary surgery. Concise and discussing all of the more common issues that hand surgeons often face in performing revision surgery, this invaluable title is unique in that it looks specifically at the problem of what to do when the original index procedure did not go as planned. Topics covered include the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow, and several sections of the book discuss some of the psychological and social factors that also go into the decision process to reoperate or not. The chapters are tightly focused so that the important aspects to consider for reoperation can be quickly reviewed. There is also a component that discusses how to avoid other pitfalls and to minimize as well as manage any complications that may occur with reoperative procedures. Importantly, the book is replete with original art work to help describe and demonstrate how to perform many reoperative procedures. The artwork is simple and straightforward but yet detailed enough to convey the important steps and aspects for the surgical intervention it is outlining. Developed by renowned experts in the hand surgery field, Reoperative Hand Surgery is an indispensable, state-of-the-art reference, offering the busy hand and upper extremity surgeon easily accessible information relating to the evaluation, diagnosis, and possible surgical interventions for the diagnoses discussed.
