He tackles a variety of topics in eight chapters that encompass attitude, spirituality, shaping people into nurturing adults, government policy, promoting renewability, and fostering healthy and intimate integrations. Get answers to questions such as: • What can Africa learn from rampant levels of pollution in China and elsewhere? • How is love of culture connected to sustainable development? • What can Africans do to work toward a self-driven future? • How can spiritual leaders promote a sustainable agenda? The author also explores how politics, education, optimism, industrialization, and globalization are connected to sustainable development. Africa S Quest For A Philosophy Of Decolonization written by Messay Kebede and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-01-01 with Philosophy categories.

This book discovers freedom in the colonial idea of African primitiveness. As human transcendence, freedom escapes the drawbacks of otherness, as defended by ethnophilosophy, while exposing the idiosyncratic inspiration of Eurocentric universalism. Decolonization calls for the reconnection with freedom, that is, with myth-making understood as the inaugural act of cultural pluralism. The cultural condition of modernization emerges when the return to the past deploys the future.

“If in the past the Sahara divided us, now it unites us,” Kwame Nkrumah declared more than half a century ago. Keenly aware of Africa’s many artificial divides, Nkrumah was determined to lead a revolution that would bridge them. One way to achieve this goal, Nkrumah proposed, was a continental pan-African government, which would provide the African people with the opportunity to pool and marshal their enormous real and potential economic, human and natural resources for the optimal development of their continent. A continental union government, Nkrumah was convinced, would ensure that Africa ended the divisions created by the trilogy of the enslavement, colonization and neo-colonization of Africans. Nkrumah was concerned by other divisions as well, specifically those created by time, history, nature, and, above all, Africans themselves, such as ethnic, racial and religious discrimination, classism, sexism, and ageism, as well as atavistic and backward traditional practices, including “tribalism” and patriarchy. Africa’s Many Divides and Africa’s Future: Pursuing Nkrumah’s Vision of Pan-Africanism in an Era of Globalization is a collection of papers presented at the first and second Kwame Nkrumah International Conferences. This volume contextualizes Nkrumah’s pan-Africanist agenda within the neo-liberal global project and against the backdrop of the current global economic and political ferment.

Colonial Cinema In Africa written by Glenn Reynolds and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-02 with Performing Arts categories.

In recent decades historians and film scholars have intensified their study of colonial cinema in Africa. Yet the vastness of the continent, the number of European powers involved and irregular record keeping has made uncovering the connections between imagery, imperialism and indigenous peoples difficult. This volume takes up the challenge, tracing production and exhibition patterns to show how motion pictures were introduced on the continent during the "Scramble for Africa" and the subsequent era of consolidation. The author describes how early actualities, expeditionary footage, ethnographic documentaries and missionary films were made in the African interior and examines the rise of mass black spectatorship. While Africans in the first two decades of the 20th century were sidelined as cinema consumers because of colonial restrictions, social and political changes in the subsequent interwar period--wrought by large-scale mining in southern Africa--led to a rethinking of colonial film policy by missionaries, mining concerns and colonial officials. By World War II, cinema had come to black Africa.

Francophone African Poetry And Drama written by Richard J. Gray II and has been published by McFarland this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-09 with Literary Criticism categories.

Scholars examining literature from former French colonies sometimes view it wrongly as simply an outgrowth of colonial literature. By suggesting new ways to understand the multiple voices present, this book explores how Francophone African poetry and theatre in particular, since the 1960s, constitute both an organic cultural product and a reflection of the diverse African cultures in which they originate. Themes explored in five chapters include the many kinds of African identity formation, the resistance to former notions of literary composition as art, a remapping of social responsibility, and the impact of globalization on Francophone Africa's participation in world economics, politics and culture. This study highlights the inner workings of Francophone African literature and suggests a canonization of modern Francophone works from a world perspective.
