Recent progress in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced imaging techniques have brought about exciting diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities in oncology. More and more state-of-the-art CT, PET, and MRI imaging techniques are being applied to tumor imaging, and new interdisciplinary field such as MR-LINAC is booming. We feel there's an urgent need to organize a Research Topic to highlight the application of AI and imaging for various oncology branches such as radiation therapy, as we are witnessing an accelerated integration of imaging and therapy to improve the care of cancer patients. Imaging has also been the backbone of the oncology world. It is used for diagnosis as well as planning. MRI has a superior soft tissue contrast but lacks the electron density information for the dose calculation, alternative approaches use synthetic CT for dose calculation. The development of the MRI-guided system and online adaptation can be considered as the bridge between many specialties, starting from learning about MRI safety by the therapy physicist to the use of AI for robust planning. Active research is done to improve the images (advanced MRI techniques, Nuclear medicine and PET-MRI, synthetic images, CBCT for dose calculation) for clinical workflows. However, all these topics have a lot of room for exploration.

Artificial Intelligence And Precision Oncology written by Zodwa Dlamini and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-21 with Medical categories.
This book highlights the use of artificial intelligence (AI), big data and precision oncology for medical decision making in cancer screening, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Precision oncology has long been thought of as ideal for the management and treatment of cancer. This strategy promises to revolutionize the treatment, control, and prevention of cancer by tailoring tests, treatments and predictions to specific individuals or population groups. In order to accomplish these goals, vast amounts of patient or population group specific data needs to be integrated and analysed to be able to identify key patterns or features which can be used to define or characterize the disease or the response to the disease in these individuals. These patterns or features can be as varied as molecular patterns or features in medical images. This level of data analysis and integration can only be achieved through the use of AI. The book is divided into three parts starting with a section on the use of artificial intelligence for screening, diagnosis and monitoring in precision oncology. The second part: Artificial intelligence and Omics in precision oncology, highlights the use of AI and epigenetics, metabolomics, microbiomics in precision oncology. The third part covers artificial intelligence in cancer therapy and its clinical applications. It also highlights the use of AI tools for risk prediction, early detection, diagnosis and accurate prognosis. This book, written by experts in the field from academia and industry, will appeal to cancer researchers, clinical oncologists, pathologists, medical students, academic teaching staff and medical residents interested in cancer research as well as those specialising as clinical oncologists.

The main aim of this book is to present a sample of recent research on the application of novel artificial intelligence paradigms to the diagnosis and prognosis of breast cancer. These paradigms include neural networks, fuzzy logic and evolutionary computing. Artificial intelligence techniques offer advantages — such as adaptation, fault tolerance, learning and human-like behavior — over conventional computing techniques. The idea is to combine the pathological, intelligent and statistical approaches to enable simple and accurate diagnosis and prognosis. This book is the first of its kind on the topic of artificial intelligence in breast cancer. It presents the applications of artificial intelligence in breast cancer diagnosis and prognosis, and includes state-of-the-art concepts in the field. This book provides a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art imaging in head and neck cancer. Precise determination of tumor extent is of the utmost importance in these neoplasms, as it has important consequences for staging of disease, prediction of outcome and choice of treatment. Only the radiologist can fully appreciate submucosal, perineural, and perivascular tumor spread and detect metastatic disease at an early stage. Imaging is also of considerable benefit for patient surveillance after treatment. All imaging modalities currently used in the management of head and neck neoplasms are considered in depth, and in addition newer techniques such as PET-CT and diffusion-weighted MRI are discussed. This book will help the reader to recommend, execute and report head and neck imaging studies at a high level of sophistication and thereby to become a respected member of the team managing head and neck cancer.
