The EU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act: A Commentary Edited by Ceyhun Necati Pehlivan, Nikolaus Forgó & Peggy Valcke As artificial intelligence (AI) systems increasingly permeate various facets of our lives, there are growing concerns about their disruptive effects on society and the risks they pose to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Accordingly, the AI phenomenon has given rise to numerous governance frameworks at all levels of jurisdiction. In this context, it cannot be denied that the European Union’s AI Act is the first legislation of its kind with global impact, establishing horizontal rules for the development, market placement, and use of AI systems. However, grasping its subtleties and intricacies poses a formidable challenge. This, then, is the first book to offer a reference guide and research tool, providing the full text of the AI Act as published in the Official Journal of 12 July 2024, along with an in-depth, article-by-article commentary. The commentary examines each article in sequential order, ensuring a thorough understanding of every provision. More than eighty prestigious scholars and top-tier professionals, all experts in the field, collectively contribute an exhaustive exploration and analysis of the AI Act, making this volume ‘the’ guide, likely shaping the Act’s interpretation and application in courts, and establishing it as a preeminent resource for legal determinations and academic research. The authors include senior scholars, legal practitioners, judges, and regulators from top law schools, international law firms, and EU institutions. Their authoritative and respected opinions and diverse insights and perspectives will help to shape legal and regulatory frameworks for AI, not only in Europe but worldwide. Lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals will benefit from the book’s lucid interpretation of the AI Act, aiding in its application and compliance, thus enhancing their ability to effectively practice and uphold AI-related regulations. Professionals working in, interested in, and willing to learn more about the field of AI will find thorough guidance, making it an essential resource for anyone involved in AI development and systems design. In addition, policymakers and institutions across the globe will have the opportunity to learn from the EU's pioneering approach, helping them craft their own AI policies and legislation.

Recent Trends And Advances In Artificial Intelligence And Internet Of Things written by Valentina E. Balas and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-19 with Technology & Engineering categories.
This book covers all the emerging trends in artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The Internet of Things is a term that has been introduced in recent years to define devices that are able to connect and transfer data to other devices via the Internet. While IoT and sensors have the ability to harness large volumes of data, AI can learn patterns in the data and quickly extract insights in order to automate tasks for a variety of business benefits. Machine learning, an AI technology, brings the ability to automatically identify patterns and detect anomalies in the data that smart sensors and devices generate, and it can have significant advantages over traditional business intelligence tools for analyzing IoT data, including being able to make operational predictions up to 20 times earlier and with greater accuracy than threshold-based monitoring systems. Further, other AI technologies, such as speech recognition and computer vision can help extract insights from data that used to require human review. The powerful combination of AI and IoT technology is helping to avoid unplanned downtime, increase operating efficiency, enable new products and services, and enhance risk management.

Artificial Intelligence And Human Institutions written by Richard Ennals and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.
Artificial Intelligence and Human Institutions argues that successful applications of artificial intelligence are possible only within an understanding of human institutions and the limitations of technology. Products of artificial intelligence research are becoming widely available to non-specialists using low-cost computer systems, but there has been a lack of communication between re- searchers and community groups. Taking the "weak AI" position, the book explores the way insights and tools from artificial intelligence can be valuable in coming to terms with real world problems. Drawing on the author's extensive practical experience in AI research and research management, the book brings together case studies from the fields of education, training, business, engineering, defence, health, and community work, and suggests future directions. This book deals with advanced concepts of artificial intelligence for non-specialist readers, while providing an introduction to state-of-the-art developments. It seeks to use AI concepts to illuminate the practical and theoretical concerns of institutions and organisations, opening up possibilities for new areas of collaborative work, and revealing new sources of references and ideas. This is the latest title in the Artificial Intelligence and Society series and will be of interest to lecturers and students in AI, education, social and political sciences, and business studies.

Toward Human Level Artificial Intelligence written by Eitan Michael Azoff and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-18 with Computers categories.
Is a computer simulation of a brain sufficient to make it intelligent? Do you need consciousness to have intelligence? Do you need to be alive to have consciousness? This book has a dual purpose. First, it provides a multi-disciplinary research survey across all branches of neuroscience and AI research that relate to this book’s mission of bringing AI research closer to building a human-level AI (HLAI) system. It provides an encapsulation of key ideas and concepts, and provides all the references for the reader to delve deeper; much of the survey coverage is of recent pioneering research. Second, the final part of this book brings together key concepts from the survey and makes suggestions for building HLAI. This book provides accessible explanations of numerous key concepts from neuroscience and artificial intelligence research, including: The focus on visual processing and thinking and the possible role of brain lateralization toward visual thinking and intelligence. Diffuse decision making by ensembles of neurons. The inside-out model to give HLAI an inner "life" and the possible role for cognitive architecture implementing the scientific method through the plan-do-check-act cycle within that model (learning to learn). A neuromodulation feature such as a machine equivalent of dopamine that reinforces learning. The embodied HLAI machine, a neurorobot, that interacts with the physical world as it learns. This book concludes by explaining the hypothesis that computer simulation is sufficient to take AI research further toward HLAI and that the scientific method is our means to enable that progress. This book will be of great interest to a broad audience, particularly neuroscientists and AI researchers, investors in AI projects, and lay readers looking for an accessible introduction to the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence.
