Game Of Thrones As A Contemporary Feminist Revenge Tragedy written by Lea M. Peters and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-11 with Literary Criticism categories.
It is common knowledge that the television series Game of Thrones and revenge go together well, but whether Game of Thrones and feminism are compatible is debatable, to say the least. This book shows how the series’ female characters in particular utilise revenge to acquire autonomy, fight objectification, and pursue equality. On the one hand, they do so by mirroring the female characters of English Renaissance Revenge Tragedies. On the other, prevailing feminist ideas of the 21st century are also incorporated. The resulting tension between models from the Renaissance and current feminist impulses allows for an interpretation of Game of Thrones as a contemporary, feminist version of a Revenge Tragedy. Thus, this book discusses gender, equality, and representation, problematising the heteronormative, binary perspective so commonly given on the series. As such, the book is for everyone interested in popular culture and its influences and developments, both fans and critics of the show, feminists, and those who aspire to educate themselves.

During the last presidential election in Iran, nonviolent protestors defied the mullahs’ power by wearing green ribbons on their wrists. In June of 2009, the inhabitants of Tehran were living underground to escape the government’s authority, strangled by interdictions, dreaming of freedom and revolution. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran and desperate to maintain his power, defeated his opponent, Mahmoud Mousavi, by massive electoral fraud. The resulting frustration and anger throughout the country sparked a gigantic wave of opposition. The Green Movement was born. In this timely, politically relevant, and unique account of life in Iran, Arefi takes us to a world removed from the usual cultural and political clichés about Iran and lets us hear the voices of a new generation of Iranians, who have never known anything but religious dictatorship and repression. He also tells the stories of the first victims of repression—Neda, Sohrab, and Taraneh.

This book reflects the outcome of a long-term involvement in issues of child labour, non-formal education and formal school enrolment. It documents research findings and practical experiences on social, economic and cultural causes of child labour and various pragmatic and theory-guided methods as well as legal instruments to combat child labour. The tenet that quality schooling prevents child labour implies a shift in child labour monitoring from a conventional controlling approach at workplaces to a community based enabling approach at schools. Child labour and school enrolment are not isolated phenomena that can be strategically resolved under controlled conditions in the human lifeworld but are rather positioned, reflected and acted upon in the context of a handed down and existing system. Universal human rights instruments including educational rights offer directives to resolve problematic settings that prevailed over time; however, they require an unequivocal commitment, which is not always the case in the ground reality of pluralistic stakeholders divided by conflicting group interests.

“As much about a father-son relationship as it is a survival story . . . his father’s life philosophy . . . got him down the mountain and through life.” —USA Today Norman Olstead’s New York Times–bestselling memoir Crazy for the Storm is the story of the harrowing plane crash the author miraculously survived at age eleven, framed by the moving tale of his complicated relationship with his charismatic, adrenaline-addicted father. Destined to stand with other classic true stories of man against nature—Into Thin Air and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer; Sebastian Junger’s The Perfect Storm—it is a literary triumph that novelist Russell Banks (Affliction) calls, “A heart-stopping story beautifully told . . . Norman Olstead has written a book that may well be read for generations.” “A heart-stopping adventure that ends in tragedy and in triumph, a love story that fearlessly explores the bond between a father and son and what it means to lead a life without limits.” —Susan Cheever, award-winning author of American Bloomsbury “An elegant memoir as well as a transformative coming-of-age tale. When he leaves his father’s limp body behind on the icy plateau—giving it a final kiss and caress as it’s claimed by the snow—Ollestad takes his first perilous steps not just into survival, but into adulthood.” —New York Post “Cinematic and personal . . . Ollestad’s insights into growing up in a broken home and adolescence in southern California are as engrossing as the story of his trip down the mountain.” —Chicago Tribune “Riveting.” —Entertainment Weekly
