História das Religiões é uma síntese abrangente e inédita para o público brasileiro da perspectiva histórico-religiosa realizada pela Escola Italiana de História das Religiões. Na primeira parte, são oferecidos os fundamentos básicos dessa disciplina e metodologia de estudos extremamente profícua e urgente, não somente para o estudante do curso de História, mas geralmente para o de Ciências Sociais: tendo em vista a urgência do restabelecimento de um diálogo entre várias disciplinas e vertentes. A obra utiliza, entre outros recursos analíticos, a tradução de alguns textos basilares, fundadores e exemplares desse percurso metodológico da escola Histórico-Religiosa. Na segunda, são aprofundadas algumas problemáticas do "religioso" ao longo da Antiguidade tardia, Idade Média, Renascimento e Idade Moderna, bem como conceitos que estruturaram o caminho universalizante e inclusivo do Ocidente (Direito, Religião, Civilização e Antropologia). No interior desse percurso, destaca-se a articulação entre Antropologia e História, a qual fez surgir tanto uma comparação sistemática entre culturas quanto a História das Religiões. A obra percorre, em termos gerais, as etapas, historicamente determinadas e cada vez prioritárias, dos respectivos códigos de Direito, Religião, Civilização e Antropologia: neles se inscreve um percurso - não linear, evidentemente, mas historicamente complexo - através do qual se estruturou o caminho caracteristicamente universalizante e inclusivo do Ocidente. No interior desse percurso foi se impondo, de fato, a articulação cada vez mais significativa entre Antropologia e História que viu surgir, de um lado, a exigência de uma comparação sistemática entre culturas (histórica e diferentemente orientadas) e, de outro lado, com a exigência dessa comparação, a História das Religiões.
