In the uncertain days before a young America would be torn apart by a war between the states, a small boy named Morgan Montgomery is orphaned and sent to live with his mothers wealthy relatives. They attend her funeral service and take the nine-year-old to live with them and grow up on their large plantation near Columbia, Tennessee. As he begins to grow into manhood, tensions erupt to the boiling point. And for one frightening year after war breaks out, Morgan remains on the plantation, torn between his loyalty to his adopted family and his duty as a Southern man. After much trepidation, he decides to enlist in the Confederate army and ends up riding with Nathan Bedford Forrest. The story tells of the hardships and tribulations of the war, and of his undying love for Charity, the young lady who helped nurse him back to health after he was severely wounded near her home in Mississippi. After the wars end, they are separated by circumstance, and Morgan begins his quest to find her again. Morgan, clinging desperately to the hope that he will find her, travels to Texas. He works his way across the state, surviving any way he can, hoping that his travels will reunite him with his lost Charity.

Ashes to Glory is a fascinating account of the 4th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment (XXXVI SIKH). Written and compiled by two officers of the Battalion who have been brought up in its traditions, the book recalls how, time and again, it has rallied to the call and risen to even greater glory. The Battalion suffered over 600 casualties within three hours at Hai during World War I and was overrun by Rommel’s Panzer division in the burning sands of EI Alamien during World War II. Again, in 1962 and 1965 it faced major reverses, yet emerged unscathed. Tracing the Battalion’s trials and tribulations, triumph and glory, the book recounts how, within four years of its raising, it earned its first Battle Honour in Manipur. However, it is in the NWFP on 12 September 1897, while defending the post of Saragarhi, that it achieved undying glory. Havildar Ishar Singh and twenty-one other ranks laid down their lives fighting, refusing to surrender to thousands of Orakazi tribesmen surrounding their post. All twenty-one of them were awarded the Indian Order of Merit, the then highest award given to an Indian. Ever since then it has been known as the Saragarhi Battalion. The Battalion went on to win twenty-two Battle Honours, thereby establishing its claim as not only one of the most decorated units of the Indian Army, but also a widely travelled one. These pages contain a fascinating account of the Battalion’s operations in China during the Boxer Rebellion; NWFP and Aden between the two World Wars, Abysinnia, Ethiopia, Eriteria, Egypt and Italy during World War II. The Battalion also has the honour of having participated in all the four operations since Independence, including the 1947 Kashmir Operations when it was air lifted into the valley. This is not only the story of the Battalion of the Sikh Regiment but in a way that of soldiering in the Indian Army, for it brings out the resilience of the Indian Soldier when pitched against insurmountable odds. Written on the eve of the centenary of the Battalion, it makes compelling reading.

At the age of eight, while her mother was in the hospital having her fifth baby, Jennie Garcia's innocence was taken from her by her own father. From that point on, Jennie's life jumped from one home to another, from one state to another, from security to peril, from love to loss. Jennie always believed in God and prayed often, asking Him to help her. However, it was not until she was grown and married and her three-year-old son was diagnosed with autism that she had an epiphany about how God works. Instead of asking Him for change, Jennie began to trust in His design. When she gave her full trust to God, her complete and utter belief in His will and His love, her life became more than something to endure: it became something to celebrate.

In Bringing Glory from Ashes the author comes within less than a hairbreadth of exiting this world in shame. But God! In spellbinding fashion, he rivets the attention in this page-turner sharing his miraculous recovery from a near-fatal suicide attempt followed by seven hellish years of severe depression. Many of his supposed "friends" disappeared; and yet God, in His amazing mercy, sent a few godly warriors, including his preeminently loyal wife, Candy, interceding on his behalf as vessels used by the Lord. This Christian testimony is ultimately and primarily not about the author. As you will see, the spotlight focuses and shines on the God of Jim Mayhew. For in the midst of the author's confusion, isolation, and despair, Jesus was always in complete control and had His perfect plan for his eventual deliverance giving glory to our Mighty God. Have you ever witnessed a miracle? Take a front row seat and watch how God can deliver anyone from the darkest despair into the brightest joy. --David Turner Lead Pastor of Expansion Church "Jim is a walking miracle! A true example and testimony that God still heals! Once just a shell of a person and now experiencing the abundant life of God, Jim's journey to and through the Cross is truly inspirational!" --Ryan May Ryan Paul Ministries
