The human mind is capable of amazing and often baffling things. Baseball fans remember the cautionary tale of Steve Blass, the All-Star pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates whose career was undone prematurely when he couldn’t resolve a case of “the yips,” or the tendency to choke under pressure. Though the example is extreme, Blass isn’t alone. From irrational phobias to a midlife crisis, we've all experienced moments of utter confusion about the nature of our own behavior, emotions or perception of reality. Many women report a decline in memory and attention during pregnancy, but does “pregnancy brain” really exist? What causes the physical chest pain experienced with emotional heartbreak? In Part 2 of Ask the Brains, we’ve gathered 62 of the most interesting reader questions from Scientific American MIND’s popular Q&A column. In this eBook, neurologists and other scientists share what they know about how the mind works, including some of these baffling psychological experiences.

Why do we do the things we do? The human brain is a marvelous, mysterious piece of evolution that on one hand empowers us to be rational, self-aware and innovative. On the other, the disciplines of psychiatry and psychology are a testament to our attempts to understand the human brain and behavior. Why do we persist in believing opinions despite scientific evidence to the contrary? What exactly is déjà vu? What causes prejudice? For more than a decade, Scientific American MIND’s long-running feature “Ask the Brains” has addressed questions like these from our readers on the quirks and quandaries of human behavior, psychology and neurology. Here in Ask the Brains, Part 1, we’ve compiled 55 of the best and most interesting inquiries on the form and structure of the brain, intelligence, learning, memory and more and have enlisted professors, instructors and other experts to provide answers that are accurate, understandable and just plain fascinating.

The interfaces between art and the scientific disciplines of biology, environmental science, neuroscience, and physics pose interdisciplinary questions that are an inspiration to researchers. The authors compare artists’ experimentation set-ups and thereby reveal new levels of knowledge. The examples in the Artists-in-Labs program illustrate how artists approach problems and, in this way, create new tools for science. The authors of this illustrated volume of essays include Harriet Hawkins, Irene Hediger, Jill Scott, Arnd Schneider , Susanne Witzgall, Lisa Blackman, Jens Hauser and Dieter Mersch.

The Neuroscience Of You written by Chantel Prat and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-02 with Science categories.

From University of Washington professor Chantel Prat comes The Neuroscience of You, a rollicking adventure into the human brain that reveals the surprising truth about neuroscience, shifting our focus from what’s average to an understanding of how every brain is different, exactly why our quirks are important, and what this means for each of us. With style and wit, Chantel Prat takes us on a tour of the meaningful ways that our brains are dissimilar from one another. Using real-world examples, along with take-them-yourself tests and quizzes, she shows you how to identify the strengths and weakness of your own brain, while learning what might be going on in the brains of those who are unlike you. With sections like “Focus,” “Navigate,” and “Connect,” The Neuroscience of You helps us see how brains that are engineered differently ultimately take diverse paths when it comes time to prioritize information, use what they’ve learned from experience, relate to other people, and so much more. While other scientists focus on how “the” brain works “on average,” Prat argues that our obsession with commonalities has slowed our progress toward understanding the very things that make each of us unique and interesting. Her field-leading research, employing cutting-edge technology, reveals the truth: Complicated as it may be, no two brains are alike. And individual differences in brain functioning are as pervasive as they are fundamental to defining what “normal” looks like. Adages such as, “I’m not wired that way” intuitively point to the fact that the brains we’re piloting, educating, and parenting are wonderfully distinct, explaining a whole host of phenomena, from how easily a person might learn a second language in adulthood to whether someone feels curious or threatened when faced with new information. This book invites the reader to understand themselves and others by zooming in so close that we all look gray and squishy.

Intended for the general reader as well as specialists, this book presents a fascinating new theory that posits three major brain types created by sex hormones before birth-Polytropic, Middle, and Focal. A brief scientific background is given first, and then the theory is illustrated with vivid anecdotes about real cases. The author argues persuasively (and sometimes startlingly) that brain types influence many human traits and differences, such as personality, special skills, learning disabilities, and a whole host of medical conditions. This unique approach promises new (and practical) insights into such puzzling issues as hyperactivity, autism, nicotine addiction, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and dyslexia. Read this book to find out which kind of "zebra brain" you have and discover unique insights into you and everyone you know. I have been searching for the creator since I was a boy. But how can a human being talk to Yahweh and ask questions to get solutions we need to use here on earth without dying first. I finally found Yahweh the creator enough to get his image inside of me. I went to Jupiter at first but a lady answered me, but I had no idea who the woman was I remember actually thinking that it was one of the angels little did I know that it was part of Yahweh himself. Yahweh is the ultimate ruler the almighty, the creator of heaven and the universe. There is no doubt about his majesty and power. I am not saying that I am Yahweh or want to be Yahweh. No. I am saying that as the First Global President of the World we must find solutions and who best to answers us than Yahweh himself. But Yahweh cannot entertain our questions all the time especially that they are all material and nothing to do with spirits and death. I decided to clone myself ten times. I managed to clone David 8, David 7, David 3 and David 5 for this task. David 8 did the researching going to meet Yahweh in heaven to get answers.
