Il principio della centralità dell'alunno su cui si basano i nuovi approcci didattici a partire da quello comunicativo ribalta il tradizionale modo di concepire la scuola spostando l'attenzione dall'insegnamento all'apprendimento e all'acquisizione di competenze. È adesso necessario promuovere un modello di leadership didattica in cui l'insegnante si relazioni con gli allievi per guidarli ad assumere un ruolo attivo e responsabile nel processo di apprendimento coinvolgendo la sfera intellettiva, quella della volontà e dell'affettività e sviluppando al meglio le proprie inclinazioni. Il docente deve interrogarsi sul valore educativo dell'apprendimento, capire i bisogni degli alunni e andare incontro ai loro interessi e alla loro necessità di capire e vivere a pieno il proprio tempo. L'adozione di strumenti digitali a scuola può rilevarsi un valido sostegno per promuovere la formazione della personalità e delle competenze degli alunni e favorire la centralità dello studente nel processo di apprendimento.Gli studenti del ventunesimo secolo che frequentano le scuole dell'obbligo sono tutti nativi digitali ed hanno bisogno delle innovazioni tecnologiche del proprio tempo. In particolare i dispositivi mobili come gli smartphone ed i tablet si prestano ad essere strumenti efficaci per la loro educazione e la loro formazione in quanto generalmente apprezzati e facili da essere usati in qualsiasi momento ed in qualsiasi luogo.Pertanto è oggi fondamentale che gli insegnanti siano aperti alle innovazioni e disposti ad avvalersi delle nuove tecnologie e del Web per supportare l'azione didattica.L'uso delle tecnologie digitali nella didattica, attraverso la guida metodologica del docente che ascolta, orienta e valuta i processi educativi, favorisce infatti la creazione di un clima d'aula positivo e di un ambiente di apprendimento significativo in un'ottica interdisciplinare e multisensoriale che convolge anche gli alunni con bisogni educativi speciali (BES). Le nuove tecnologie possono essere utili per facilitare l'apprendimento di qualsiasi disciplina e si rilevano particolarmente effici per favorire l'acquisizione delle lingue straniere sfruttando soprattutto i numerosi materiali autentici presenti on line come riviste, quotidiani, documentari, notiziari, ebook, audiobook, film.Gli allievi possono essere sempre posti al centro delle azioni didattiche, mediante un'accurata scelta da parte del docente delle risorse didattiche su cui lavorare sfruttando le nuove tecnologie ed andando incontro ai bisogni e ai desideri degli studenti attraverso un dialogo costruttivo. Il docente pertanto come il regista di un film, guida gli studenti affichè questi divengano protagonisti del processo di apprendimento attraverso la partecipazione attiva nell'uso dele tecnologie digitali per condurre ricerche, costruire conoscenze, creare documenti ed immagini, condivere, confrontarsi e collaborare. Proporre, valorizzare e gestire situazioni di confronto tra allievi è un obiettivo formativo fondamentale che può essere raggiunto anche sfruttando le tecnologie digitali perché queste sono generalmente ben apprezzate dai giovani e sotto la guida dell'insegnante possono divenire un valido strumento di dialogo e confronto e favorire lo sviluppo di competenze disciplinari e trasversali. Tramite le tecnologie digitali il docente può facilmente mettere in pratica la metodologia CLIL, acronimo di Content and Language Integrated Learning, e potenziare quindi l'apprendimento integrato di contenuti disciplinari in lingua straniera veicolare come un'avventura esperenziale e interdisciplinare grazie all'accesso alle informazioni in rete e alle funzionalità multitasking che consentiranno inoltre agli studenti, attraverso compiti autentici, di acquisire un atteggiamento critico, responsabile e collaborativo.
