Assignment Problems is a useful tool for researchers, practitioners and graduate students. In 10 self-contained chapters, it provides a comprehensive treatment of assignment problems from their conceptual beginnings through present-day theoretical, algorithmic and practical developments. The topics covered include bipartite matching algorithms, linear assignment problems, quadratic assignment problems, multi-index assignment problems and many variations of these. Researchers will benefit from the detailed exposition of theory and algorithms related to assignment problems, including the basic linear sum assignment problem and its variations. Practitioners will learn about practical applications of the methods, the performance of exact and heuristic algorithms, and software options. This book also can serve as a text for advanced courses in areas related to discrete mathematics and combinatorial optimisation. The revised reprint provides details on a recent discovery related to one of Jacobi's results, new material on inverse assignment problems and quadratic assignment problems, and an updated bibliography.

Handbook Of Matching And Weighting Adjustments For Causal Inference written by José R. Zubizarreta and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-11 with Mathematics categories.

An observational study infers the effects caused by a treatment, policy, program, intervention, or exposure in a context in which randomized experimentation is unethical or impractical. One task in an observational study is to adjust for visible pretreatment differences between the treated and control groups. Multivariate matching and weighting are two modern forms of adjustment. This handbook provides a comprehensive survey of the most recent methods of adjustment by matching, weighting, machine learning and their combinations. Three additional chapters introduce the steps from association to causation that follow after adjustments are complete. When used alone, matching and weighting do not use outcome information, so they are part of the design of an observational study. When used in conjunction with models for the outcome, matching and weighting may enhance the robustness of model-based adjustments. The book is for researchers in medicine, economics, public health, psychology, epidemiology, public program evaluation, and statistics who examine evidence of the effects on human beings of treatments, policies or exposures.

Encyclopedia Of Optimization written by Christodoulos A. Floudas and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-04 with Mathematics categories.

The goal of the Encyclopedia of Optimization is to introduce the reader to a complete set of topics that show the spectrum of research, the richness of ideas, and the breadth of applications that has come from this field. The second edition builds on the success of the former edition with more than 150 completely new entries, designed to ensure that the reference addresses recent areas where optimization theories and techniques have advanced. Particularly heavy attention resulted in health science and transportation, with entries such as "Algorithms for Genomics", "Optimization and Radiotherapy Treatment Design", and "Crew Scheduling".

Combinatorial Pattern Matching written by Alberto Apostolico and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-08-02 with Mathematics categories.

The papers contained in this volume were presented at the 13th Annual S- posium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching, held July 3–5, 2002 at the Hotel Uminonakamichi, in Fukuoka, Japan. They were selected from 37 abstracts s- mitted in response to the call for papers. In addition, there were invited lectures by Shinichi Morishita (University of Tokyo) and Hiroki Arimura (Kyushu U- versity). Combinatorial Pattern Matching (CPM) addresses issues of searching and matching strings and more complicated patterns such as trees, regular expr- sions, graphs, point sets, and arrays, in various formats. The goal is to derive n- trivial combinatorial properties of such structures and to exploit these properties in order to achieve superior performance for the corresponding computational problems. On the other hand, an important goal is to analyze and pinpoint the properties and conditions under which searches cannot be performed e?ciently. Over the past decade a steady ?ow of high-quality research on this subject has changed a sparse set of isolated results into a full-?edged area of algorithmics. This area is continuing to grow even further due to the increasing demand for speed and e?ciency that stems from important applications such as the World Wide Web, computational biology, computer vision, and multimedia systems. These involve requirements for information retrieval in heterogeneous databases, data compression, and pattern recognition. The objective of the annual CPM gathering is to provide an international forum for research in combinatorial p- tern matching and related applications.

Linear Programs And Related Problems written by Evar D. Nering and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-11-11 with Mathematics categories.

This text is concerned primarily with the theory of linear and nonlinear programming, and a number of closely-related problems, and with algorithms appropriate to those problems. In the first part of the book, the authors introduce the concept of duality which serves as a unifying concept throughout the book. The simplex algorithm is presented along with modifications and adaptations to problems with special structures. Two alternative algorithms, the ellipsoidal algorithm and Karmarker's algorithm, are also discussed, along with numerical considerations. the second part of the book looks at specific types of problems and methods for their solution. This book is designed as a textbook for mathematical programming courses, and each chapter contains numerous exercises and examples.
