In der vorliegenden Studie widmet sich Erasmus Gass dem schwierigen Wachstum der Anhange zum priesterlich gepragten Josuabuch in Jos 20-22. Der Abschnitt zu den Asyl- und Levitenstadten in Jos 20-21 weist einige sprachliche Besonderheiten auf, was diesen Textbereich von den Landverteilungstexten Jos 13-19 abhebt. In der folgenden Erzahlung Jos 22 wurden nicht nur deuteronomistische und priesterliche Idiome verwendet, sondern auch ein spater, teils fehlerhafter Text zusammengestellt. Eine Verbindung von Jos 22 zu den deuteronomistisch gepragten Abschiedsreden in Jos 23-24 lasst sich ebenso wenig begrunden wie die Suche nach einem alteren deuteronomistischen Kern. Offenbar arbeiteten viele Hande an Jos 20-22, worauf auch die Uberschusse und Abweichungen der LXX hinweisen. Erasmus Gass zeigt, dass eine synchrone Beurteilung nicht nur das redaktionelle Wachstum ausblendet, sondern auch die verschiedenen Versuche der priesterlichen und deuteronomistischen Redaktoren, ihre theologischen Konzeptionen in die Texte einzutragen.
