Global Crossroads: Rethinking Dominant Orders in Our Contested World is an edited collection of papers mostly presented at the 2019 DEN International Student Conference. This publication is one of the many annual projects conducted under the umbrella of the Democratic Education Network (DEN) which came to existence in 2016 at the then Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster. Today DEN has expanded across multiple departments within the University’s School of Social Sciences, aiming to inspire engagement with communities and involvement in student-led projects. DEN aspires to be a platform for empowering students, offering them opportunities for personal, intellectual and professional development, and enhancing students’ engagement and experience. This book is an articulation of the students’ research and analytical work on some of the most pressing global issues of our times. It is, further, a product of their hard work and skills, developed through DEN, in editing and compiling academic publications — a testimony to DEN’s ability to encourage and empower students to work together and achieve remarkable results.

Intersections Of Religion And Migration written by Jennifer B. Saunders and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-28 with Social Science categories.

This innovative volume introduces readers to a variety of disciplinary and methodological approaches used to examine the intersections of religion and migration. A range of leading figures in this field consider the roles of religion throughout various types of migration, including forced, voluntary, and economic. They discuss examples of migrations at all levels, from local to global, and critically examine case studies from various regional contexts across the globe. The book grapples with the linkages and feedback between religion and migration, exploring immigrant congregations, activism among and between religious groups, and innovations in religious thought in light of migration experiences, among other themes. The contributors demonstrate that religion is an important factor in migration studies and that attention to the intersection between religion and migration augments and enriches our understandings of religion. Ultimately, this volume provides a crucial survey of a burgeoning cross-disciplinary, interreligious, and global area of study.

El Paso written by Victor M. Ortíz-González and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Political Science categories.

A grounded and instructive analysis of the ways globalization affects a border city. Every marker of social difference can be easily interpreted in the fashionable language of "borderlands"--and if so, as Victor M. Ortiz-Gonzalez reveals, the practical reality of the border region is often grossly misrepresented and its people woefully served. He argues that amid the tantalizing abstractions generated by the sweeping reconfigurations of globalization, people in cities like El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, on the U.S.-Mexican border, are actually living the gritty realities of a new world order. With descriptions of grassroots initiatives to confront the challenges and opportunities that NAFTA represents for the city, El Paso challenges us to acknowledge and address the conceptual and sociopolitical tasks of a world in which abstract representations and nonlocal interests override concrete situations. Ortiz-Gonzalez also provides an indepth analysis of groups such as La Mujer Obrera, Unite El Paso, and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and their attempts to give local residents and workers more autonomy and power. Balancing ethnographic detail with precise theoretical insights, El Paso offers a compelling case study and a stirring call to understand both the conceptual challenge and the social urgency of the effects of globalization in local settings.

"Like other megacities, Los Angeles is a crossroads of migrating communities who are motivated or sustained by a faith that is also challenged in the encounter with others. Using sociological, missiological, and theological methods, the contributors examine the migrant landscape of Southern California-its injustices, innovations, and global impact"--
