This book illustrates 100 classic radiologic signs with radiograms alongside illustrative photographs for memory aids and clarification. Accompanying text explains the history and meaning of the descriptive name. The entry for "dromedary hump," for example, shows a typical x-ray of this condition with a photograph of a dromedary camel that clearly shows how the name fits the sign. Dr. Mulligan says, "In honor of the 100th anniversary of Roentgen's discovery, this book illustrates and elaborates on the history of 100 of the more classic radiologic signs. If we are to use these terms with full understanding, we must have the ability to visualize the object depicted by the term, imagine its radiographic appearance, and transfer that picture to the radiographic image before us. This book is intended to help practitioners and students of our art accomplish that task."

This book systematically summarizes classic imaging signs' characteristics and theory for whole body imaging, serving as a clinical guide for the understanding, prevention, and diagnosis of miscellaneous entities. In recent years, with the rapid evolution of modern imaging modalities, radiology has secured an irreplaceable role in diagnosis within standard clinical practice and being familiar with radiological signs has become essential. The book provides a multimodality review of more than 300 commonly utilized radiologic signs in radiography, CT, MRI, US, angiography, and nuclear medicine, including PET-CT. It is designed to enhance recognition of specific imaging patterns and enable the image interpreter to confidently reach an accurate diagnosis. Divided into ten chapters dedicated to different anatomic areas, each sign includes detailed discussion that explains the history and meaning of the descriptive or metaphoric sign, alongside illustrative photos for memory aid and clarification. Uniquely written from a practical point of view, each case leads you through a radiology expert’s thought process in analyzing the classic signs with considerations of common misinterpretations and imaging pitfalls. The cases then highlight clinical presentation, relevant pathology, anatomy, physiology, and pertinent imaging features of common disease processes. Key information is distilled into succinct, bulleted points with detailed illustrations and images. This book is an ideal reference and review for practicing radiologists, as well as trainees preparing for licensing examinations.

The rise of malpractice litigation has placed pressure on the radiologist, ultimately responsible for the detection of any pathology evident on the film. In most cases, it is easy to recognize an abnormality, however, it is somewhat harder to identify pathology out of the primary field of view and to locate subtle abnormalities in the margins and dark areas of films. Many such "misses" are preventable, either by improving radiological technique or by learning to sharpen powers of observation. This book attempts to acheive the latter. By providing a collection of potential errors and oversights, this text encourages the reader to identify easily missed fractures and "corner clues", using all possible information on the film. Presenting the author's most challenging and instructive cases in atlas style, each chapter tests the radiologist's expertise by addressing a particular organ system. Whether a seasoned expert or a novice, this is an essential learning experience that will considerably refine the radiologist's diagnostic acumen.

The purpose of this atlas is to illustrate how to achieve reliable diagnoses when confronted by the different abnormalities, or “disease patterns”, that may be visualized on CT scans of the chest. The task of pattern recognition has been greatly facilitated by the advent of multidetector CT (MDCT), and the focus of the book is very much on the role of state-of-the-art MDCT. A wide range of disease patterns and distributions are covered, with emphasis on the typical imaging characteristics of the various focal and diffuse lung diseases. In addition, clinical information relevant to differential diagnosis is provided and the underlying gross and microscopic pathology is depicted, permitting CT–pathology correlation. The entire information relevant to each disease pattern is also tabulated for ease of reference. This book will be an invaluable handy tool that will enable the reader to quickly and easily reach a diagnosis appropriate to the pattern of lung abnormality identified on CT scans.

An Atlas Of Diagnostic Radiology In Gastroenterology written by R. Vallance and has been published by Wiley-Blackwell this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-01-12 with Medical categories.

Traditionally the radiological investigation in gastroenterology has involved plain film radiography and barium studies. The recent demand to reduce the dose of radiation given to patients means increasingly that a wide range of alternative imaging techniques are being used. There is also a great deal of interest in subspecialisation in radiology and one of the key areas involved is the gastrointestinal tract. Together these developments call for a focused and systematic approach to training in the sub-speciality. This book takes a unique view of the subject and presents an atlas of radiological findings pointing out both normal anatomy and signs of disease in the GI tract. There is a particular emphasis on image quality and the book has been organised by system rather than by imaging modality, which mirrors the natural course of the clinical investigation. For example, in the section on the stomach, all available forms of radiological imaging will be discussed as they fit into a normal investigation of stomach disease and various advantages and disadvantages of each technology are pointed out. The text has been kept deliberately brief with an introductory section on the normal anatomy of each organ at the beginning of the chapter, followed by pictures accompanied with a brief caption pointing out the key features.
