Der Umgang mit dem, was wir als «fremd» empfinden, und der Umgang mit «den Fremden» gehören zu den Grundfragen des Einzelnen und der menschlichen Gesellschaft. Deshalb befasste sich die 13. Ökumenische Sommerakademie Kremsmünster 2011 unter dem Titel Auch Gott ist ein Fremder. Fremdsein - Toleranz - Solidarität mit den damit verbundenen Fragestellungen. Die Heftigkeit der tagespolitischen Diskussionen über Migration und Integration in Europa belegt die anhaltende Brisanz der Thematik. Dabei gilt es jedoch, über den vordergründig aktuell-pragmatischen Diskurs hinaus zu den tiefer liegenden Denkstrukturen und Vor-Urteilen vorzudringen und den spezifisch religiösen Beitrag in diese Auseinandersetzungen einzubringen. Die biblische Erinnerung: «Ihr wisst doch, wie es einem Fremden zumute ist; denn ihr selbst seid in Ägypten Fremde gewesen» (Ex 23,9) ist eine über die jüdisch-christliche Kultur hinaus ins Menschheitsgedächtnis eingetragene Mahnung zu mehr Toleranz, Solidarität und sozialer Gerechtigkeit. Die permanente «Fremdheit» Gottes mit seinen Ansprüchen und Geboten ist zudem speziell in einem postsäkularen Umfeld selbst Teil des Diskurses. Das Befremdliche an Gott, der sich mit den Bedürftigen identifiziert, sowie die selbstkritische Reflexion von Eigenem und Fremdem im menschlichen Selbstverständnis und einer damit verbundenen Weltsicht fordern zu einem verständnisoffenen Dialog heraus, weil darin letztlich die Basis für ein gelingendes, respektvolles Miteinander unterschiedlichster Menschen liegt. Dieser Tagungsband dokumentiert die Vorträge und Statements der Referentinnen und Referenten aus literarischer, soziologischer und religionsphilosophischer, bibel- und islamwissenschaftlicher, sozialethischer, theologisch-systematischer sowie kirchlich-pastoraler Perspektive, geprägt vom jeweiligen konfessionellen, religiösen und weltanschaulichen Standpunkt.

How did the Gospel of Mark come to exist? And how was the memory of Jesus shaped by the experiences of the earliest Christians? For centuries, biblical scholars examined texts as history, literature, theology, or even as story. Curiously absent, however, has been attention to processes of collective memory in the creation of biblical texts. Drawing on modern explorations of social memory, Sandra Huebenthal presents a model for reading biblical texts as collective memories. She demonstrates that the Gospel of Mark is a text evolving from collective narrative memory based on recollections of Jesus’s life and teachings. Huebenthal investigates the principles and structures of how groups remember and how their memory is structured and presented. In the case of Mark’s Gospel, this includes examining which image of Jesus, as well as which authorial self-image, this text as memory constructs. Reading Mark’s Gospel as a Text from Collective Memory serves less as a key to unlock questions about the historical Jesus and more as an examination of memory about him within a particular community, providing a new and important framework for interpreting the earliest canonical gospel in context.

On May 1st, 1998 Professor P.W.Pestman retired from academic teaching. His contributions to the field of papyrology are well known: he has continually stressed the importance of Egyptian sources for the study of Greek and Roman Egypt, and the importance of studying the Greek and Egyptian documentation together, in context. Indeed, he has been among the first to link the formerly separate Greek and Egyptian documentation, establishing modern papyrological practice. He has thus given an Egyptian face to Graeco-Roman society, to complement the Greek face that had previously dominated papyrology. Die in der Arbeit vorgenomme Auslegung der Schriften De Josepho und De Somniis II von Philo von Alexandria liest die beiden gegensätzlichen Darstellungen der Josephfigur als Beitrag zum Herrschaftsdiskurs. Die ambivalenten Tendenzen der biblischen Josephfigur bilden für ihn den Ausgangspunkt am Beispiel Josephs, Strukturen sowohl tyrannischer als auch idealer Herrschaft zu untersuchen. Philos Kenntnis griechisch-hellenistischer Philosophie sowie sein Verständnis der Tora als göttlich inspiriertem Text ermöglicht ihm, den politischen Charakter auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen zu reflektieren. Die Spannung zwischen beiden Traktaten bleibt dabei bestehen und kann als bewusste Darstellung gelungener und tyrannischer Herrschaft gedeutet werden. Zugleich entwickelt Philo aus den Ambivalenzen der Josephfigur heraus ein Herrschaftskonzept, welches aufgrund des Toraverständnisses politisches Handeln aus Abhängigkeiten befreit und universale Handlungsvorgaben und Kontrollinstanzen aufzeigt. -------- The exegesis of De Josepho and De Somniis II intended in this work read the two portrayals of Joseph as Philo’s contribution to the discourse on government. The ambivalent tendencies in the Joseph figure form the point of departure for Philo in using it for examining structures of tyrannical and ideal rule. Philo’s knowledge of Greek-Hellenistic philosophy and his understanding of the Torah enables him to reflect upon the political character on different levels. Thus the tension between both treatises can be interpreted as a conscious portrayal of effective and of tyrannical rule. At the same time Philo develops a concept of government out of the ambivalences of the Joseph figure, which, on the basis of the understanding of the Torah, liberates political action from dependencies and points out universal guidelines for action and the authorities responsible for control of them.
