Hans Peter Hertig erzählt in einer unkonventionellen Art eine Schweizer Kulturgeschichte der letzten 100 Jahre: Der Autor porträtiert dazu 65 Kultur prägende Persönlichkeiten zwischen 1918 und heute aus der bildenden Kunst, Literatur, Musik, Film, Theater und Tanz sowie den Wissenschaften. In diesen begegnet der Autor neben Künstler:innen auch Personen, die deren Werke dem Publikum vermitteln.
