Sehr still hingegen ist es urn das zweite Jubillium. Vor 40 Jahren erscheint die in der alten wie der neuen Welt mit g1eieher Spannung erwartete "Allgemeine Theorie der Beschliftigung, des Zinses und des Geldes". Die westlichen Industriellinder hatten die schwerste Wirtschaftskrise mit Massenelend und katastrophalen politischen Konsequen zen durchlaufen. Die marxistische Kampf these, die kapitalistische Wirtschaft werde an den sich stlindig verschlirfenden Konjunktureinbriichen zugrunde gehen, schien !>ich endgiiltig zu bestatigen. Schon mit den ersten Vorzeichen der GroBen Krise hatte Werner Sombart das Ende des Kapitalismus prophezeit. John Maynard Keynes, in seiner politischen Grundeinstellung schwer einzuordnen, vor gerade 3 Jahrzehnten nach der tiefen Enttliuschung, die Bretton Woods fUr ihn brachte, verstorben, wollte die Marktwirtschaft vor drohendem Untergang retten. Es war still um das Jubillium von Keynes' wichtigstem und einfluBreichstem Werk, kaum wurde sein 30. Todestag erwahnt, aber es war keineswegs still um den Keynesianismus. 1m Gegenteil: die Kontroverse zwischen den Monetaristen und den Keynesianern ("Fiskalisten") wird als die bedeutendste wissenschaftliche Auseinander setzung der letzten beiden Jahrzehnte, die mit der weltweiten Beschleunigung der Inflation nach der Olkrise ihren Hohepunkt erreichte, in die Theoriengeschichte eingehen.
