Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Statistik, Note: 1,0, Universität Augsburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Wissenschaftler Stutzer und Frey haben 2008 eine Veröffentlichung mit dem Titel „Stress that doesn’t pay: the Commuting Paradox“ im Scandinavian Journal of Economics publiziert. In diesem Paper wird die Hypothese aufgestellt, dass ein rational denkendes Individuum nur dann die Bürde des Pendelns auf sich nimmt, wenn es in entsprechender Form dafür entschädigt wird. In den Daten aus Deutschland haben die Autoren jedoch einen negativen Zusammenhang zwischen der Pendeldauer und der berichteten Zufriedenheit mit dem Leben festgestellt. Diese Beobachtung widerspricht der klassischen Gleichgewichtsannahme: die Individuen nehmen also das Pendeln auf sich ohne dafür in ausreichender Weise entschädigt zu werden. Diesen Zustand definieren Stutzer und Frey als das „Pendler Paradoxon“. Im Weiteren sollen zwei weitere Paper analysiert und diskutiert werden. „It’s driving her mad: Gender differences in the effects of commuting on psychological health“ (2011) von Roberts, Hodgson und Dolan untersucht den Zusammenhang zwischen Pendeln und der psychologischen Gesundheit anhand von Daten aus Großbritannien. Die Methodik einer Fixed Effects Analyse ähnelt dem Vorgehen der Autoren von 2008, jedoch wird eine andere interessante Beobachtung in ihren Daten gemacht und diskutiert: Während Frauen im Durchschnitt weniger pendeln als Männer wird ihre psychologische Gesundheit davon negativ beeinflusst – die der Männern jedoch nicht. Das im letzten Jahr veröffentlichte Paper „Does active commuting improve psychological wellbeing?“ von Martin, Goryakin und Suhrcke untersucht, ob der Zusammenhang zwischen dem Wohlbefinden und der Pendeldauer durch die Wahl des Reisemodus (Pendeln per Auto, Zug, Fahrrad etc.) beeinflusst wird. Das aktuellste Paper baut seine Methode parallel zu Roberts et al. auf und vergleicht sich oft mit Diesem. [...]

Das Phänomen des Pendelns zwischen Wohn- und Arbeitsort gewinnt zunehmend an Bedeutung im gesellschaftlichen sowie individuellen Kontext. Die vorliegende Arbeit geht der Frage nach, wie Erwerbstätige pendeln in ihren Alltag integrieren und erforscht die damit verbundenen Einflüsse und Auswirkungen auf die Lebensqualität. Die empirische Untersuchung erfolgte durch vier leitfadengestützte, problemzentrierte Interviews, welche nach der Methodik der Grounded Theory ausgewertet wurden. Ein besonderes Augenmerk der Arbeit lag hierbei auf dem Pendlertypus des Tages- und Wochenpendlers sowie des Geschäftsreisenden. Es zeigte sich, dass besonders der Faktor Zeit einen bedeutenden negativen Einfluss auf das subjektive Wohlempfinden der Pendler ausübt. Die Auswirkungen manifestieren sich beim Pendelnden selbst, indem sie Gesundheit, Lebensstil, Karriere, jedoch auch soziales Umfeld und Partnerschaft bzw. Familie verändern. Es zeigte sich im Hinblick auf die Lebensqualität, dass eine Unausgeglichenheit der Grund-, Sicherheits- und Selbstverwirklichungsbedürfnisse negative Auswirkungen auf das subjektive Wohlempfinden haben kann. Jedoch wurde auch ersichtlich, dass pendeln als positiv empfunden werden kann, wenn dessen Integration in den Alltag aus der freien Entscheidung der Pendler hervorging und somit die bestmögliche Lösung darstellt.

Anhand einer Kombination aus quantitativen und qualitativen Methoden präsentiert der Autor wichtige Bewertungsdimensionen des Lebens im Kontext des Pendelns aus Sicht der Pendlerinnen und Pendler. Ferner demonstriert er, dass das Ost-West-Pendeln subjektiv sehr positiv bewertet wird, trotz einer Vielzahl negativer Arbeitsmarkterfahrungen.

HAPPINESS ECONOMICS deals with the concept of happiness in economics. Most economists until recently were very suspicious about happiness economics and the common opinion was that happiness is not empirically measurable. Actually there is now a growing body of serious economists who are willing, either reluctantly or wholeheartedly, to include happiness economics as a part of economic science. For a better understanding of happiness economics, the authors examine the viewpoint of mainstream economics in the introduction. Section 2 starts by considering the methods of analysis in happiness economics. Section 3 considers life satisfaction (or happiness), section 4 considers domain satisfactions, section 5 returns to the ordinality-cardinality question, and Section 6 provides the link between domain satisfactions and satisfaction with life as a whole. Section 7 considers the work of the Leyden school that may be seen as a forerunner of modern happiness economics. Section 8 considers the effect of the individual's reference group on her or his happiness. Section 9 examines the influence of past events and the anticipated future on present life satisfaction. Section 10 deals with the effect of climate and more generally of the external environment on satisfaction. Section 11 considers the effect of inequality on individual happiness and considers happiness inequality per se. Section 12 considers how the vignette approach, so popular in marketing, can be applied in happiness economics. Section 13 delineates the significance of happiness economics for normative economics. And Section 14 draws some conclusions and discusses the relevance of the new findings for economic science and the social sciences in general.
