On retiring from Woolwich I applied to the Admiralty for a pension, and my application was supported by Admirals Sir Michael Seymour, Sir Thomas M. C. Symonds, Sir Ducie Chads, and Sir Robert Smart, with all of whom I had served. I finally left Woolwich Dockyard in January, 1868, and took up my residence in Granville Park, Blackheath. Unfortunately, the small-pox, 1868-70.
