La pedagogia utilizza sempre più spesso il termine formazione. Ciò richiede però un atteggiamento critico capace di riconoscere le diverse valenze del termine, i diversi contesti d'uso, il ricco e problematico spessore teoretico. In questa prospettiva si colloca l'approfondimento della realtà della coscienza svolto da Bernard Lonergan (1904-1984), filosofo e teologo canadese, gesuita. Egli ha elaborato, nel corso degli anni, un pensiero molto articolato sulla vita coscienziale, in cui appare chiaro il legame con la dimensione della formazione. La coscienza è intrinsecamente segnata da un processo formativo, così come la formazione non si realizza pienamente se non attraverso una appropriazione operata dal soggetto del proprio dinamismo coscienziale. Inoltre l'approfondimento del pensiero coscienziale svela in Lonergan la presenza di elementi che concorrono a costituire una vera e propria 'filosofia' della formazione. La formazione risulta essere, nella sua peculiarità, nella sua essenza, una risignificazione costitutiva del soggetto.

The book provides a new look at the everyday relationship between psychological processes and extraordinary aspects of ordinary phenomena. Why should we deal with ordinary things? People’s life is made of everyday practical, taken-for-granted things, such as driving a car, using money, listening music, etc. When you drive from home to workplace, you are migrating between contexts. Is this an empty space you are crossing, or the time you spend into the car is something meaningful? In psychological terms, things have, at least, three levels of existence, a material, a symbolic and an affective one. The underlying idea is that the symbolic elaboration of everyday things is characterized by the transcendence of the particular object-sign, leading to the creation of more and more complex sign fields. These fields expand according to an inclusive logic up to dialogically and dialectically incorporate opposites (i.e. clean/dirty, transparent/opaque, hide/ show, join/divide, slow/fast, etc.). Even the meaning of “ordinary” and “extraordinary” follow such an inclusive logic: if you give a positive value to ordinary, extraordinary is rule-breaking; otherwise, if ordinary means trivial, extraordinary assumes a positive value. Besides, things are cultural artifacts mediating the experience of the world, the psychological processes and the construction of mind. Reflecting upon “things” is thus a more meaningful pathway to understand Psyche.

Antonio Rosmini (1797–1855) was a genius who combined science and sanctity. His contribution turns on the theory of the suspended middle of the original relationship between the natural and the supernatural, which he experienced and elaborated. The device of the relationship between the original metaphysical-affective-symbolic structure of the believing conscience and the affective turn in metaphysics, intrinsically linked to his trinitarian ontology, allowed Rosmini to elaborate theories and epistemologies from a unitary perspective in various fields of knowledge. This volume indicates the implications of the unbreakable bond between Rosmini’s philosophy and theology in disciplines such as pedagogical science, political science, and juridical science. Following the favorable resolution of the “Rosminian question” the Catholic Church beatified Rosmini in 2007 and in 2018 indicated his theoretical-practical approach as a universal education model to be followed. Through essays by major experts in Rosmini’s thought, this curatorship offers an international public a brief, reasoned overview of Rosmini’s thinking on these disciplines, finally translated into English, so that this perspective can be understood and explored with particular regard to the possibility of encouraging ecumenical comparison between Rosmini’s suspended middle and, for example, that of Radical Orthodoxy.

Nel caso di persone in situazione di disagio o con storie traumatiche alle spalle ci si deve rassegnare a un’azione formativa volta solo al recupero o, al massimo, al contenimento del danno? Perché impegnarsi nell’attività educativa se il futuro di questi soggetti è invincibilmente determinato dal loro passato? Il fenomeno della resilienza umana invita a cambiare i paradigmi che guidano l’azione formativa, focalizzando l’attenzione più sulle risorse residue delle persone che sui danni da loro subiti, o sui rischi sociali ed educativi ai quali sono esposte. Oggetto di numerosi studi interdisciplinari, la resilienza è «il processo che permette la ripresa di uno sviluppo possibile dopo la lacerazione traumatica e nonostante la presenza di circostanze avverse» (Cyrulnik). Ciò richiede un’analisi del concetto stesso di possibilità, partendo dalla riflessione filosofica su di essa. Una volta giunti a determinare una nozione di possibilità esistenziale, però, affinché sia spendibile in campo formativo, essa deve essere resa operativa in un’antropologia capace da una parte di accoglierla e dall’altra di sostenere percorsi educativi. L’antropologia filosofica di Bernard Lonergan (1904-1984), che nel concetto di sviluppo trova il proprio punto d’incontro con quello di possibilità metafisica, è esplorata dall’Autore in quanto quadro logico e metodologico per la programmazione di attività formative ed educative adatte a sostenere percorsi volti a «restituire la possibilità».

The debates on gender and sexuality are widespread today.
