Free Fair And Alive written by David Bollier and has been published by New Society Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-03 with Political Science categories.

The power of the commons as a free, fair system of provisioning and governance beyond capitalism, socialism, and other -isms. From co-housing and agroecology to fisheries and open-source everything, people around the world are increasingly turning to 'commoning' to emancipate themselves from a predatory market-state system. Free, Fair, and Alive presents a foundational re-thinking of the commons — the self-organized social system that humans have used for millennia to meet their needs. It offers a compelling vision of a future beyond the dead-end binary of capitalism versus socialism that has almost brought the world to its knees. Written by two leading commons activists of our time, this guide is a penetrating cultural critique, table-pounding political treatise, and practical playbook. Highly readable and full of colorful stories, coverage includes: Internal dynamics of commoning How the commons worldview opens up new possibilities for change Role of language in reorienting our perceptions and political strategies Seeing the potential of commoning everywhere. Free, Fair, and Alive provides a fresh, non-academic synthesis of contemporary commons written for a popular, activist-minded audience. It presents a compelling narrative: that we can be free and creative people, govern ourselves through fair and accountable institutions, and experience the aliveness of authentic human presence.

Politics Of The Everyday written by Ezio Manzini and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-07 with Social Science categories.

Each of us develops and enacts strategies for living our everyday lives. These may confirm the general tendency towards new forms of connected solitude, in which we work, travel and live alone, yet feel sociable mainly by means of technology. Alternatively, they may help to create flexible communities that are open and inclusive, and therefore resilient and socially sustainable. In Politics of the Everyday, Ezio Manzini discusses examples of social innovation that show how, even in these difficult times, a better kind of society is possible. By bringing autonomy and collaboration together, it is possible to develop new forms of design intelligence, for our own good, for the good of the communities we are part of, and for society as a whole.

Patterns Of Commoning written by David Bollier and has been published by Commons Strategy Group and Off the Common Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-06 with Business & Economics categories.

What accounts for the persistence and spread of "commoning," the irrepressible desire of people to collaborate and share to meet everyday needs? How are the more successful projects governed? And why are so many people embracing the commons as a powerful strategy for building a fair, humane and Earth-respecting social order? In more than fifty original essays, Patterns of Commoning addresses these questions and probes the inner complexities of this timeless social paradigm. The book surveys some of the most notable, inspiring commons around the world, from alternative currencies and open design and manufacturing, to centuries-old community forests and co-learning commons - and dozens of others. David Bollier (www.bollier.org) is an American author, activist and independent scholar who has studied the commons for nearly twenty years. Silke Helfrich (commonsblog.wordpress.com) is a German author and independent activist of the commons who blogs at www.commonsblog.de, and cofounder of the Commons-Institut in Germany. With Michel Bauwens, Bollier and Helfrich are cofounders of the Common Strategies Group. For more information, go to the book's website, Patterns of Commoning (www.patternsofcommoning.org)

Critical Theory And The Critique Of Political Economy written by Werner Bonefeld and has been published by A&C Black this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-08 with Political Science categories.

Subversive thought is none other than the cunning of reason when confronted with a social reality in which the poor and miserable are required to sustain the illusion of fictitious wealth. Yet, this subsidy is absolutely necessary in existing society, to prevent its implosion. The critique of political economy is a thoroughly subversive business. It rejects the appearance of economic reality as a natural thing, argues that economy has not independent existence, expounds economy as political economy, and rejects as conformist rebellion those anti-capitalist perspectives that derive their rationality from the existing conceptuality of society. Subversion focuses on human conditions. Its critical subject is society unaware of itself. This book develops Marx's critique of political economy as negative theory of society. It does not conform to the patterns of the world and demands that society rids itself of all the muck of ages and founds itself anew.

Persuasion is one of the oldest fields of academic study -- it dates back thousands of years. In our own era, persuasion has been studied primarily by means of the theories and methods of social science research. Numerous scholars have made contributions to our knowledge of persuasion, and the field has generated a wealth of intriguing concepts and an impressive body of knowledge on persuasion processes and effects. Persuasion is not simply a science, however -- it is also an art. Today there is a burgeoning persuasion industry that includes advertising, sales, public relations, political consulting firms, and a host of private and public companies that seek to change attitudes and influence social behaviors. USE SECOND PARAGRAPH ONLY FOR GENERAL CATALOGS... Written to enhance students' understanding of persuasion theory and its applications to everyday situations, this book presents an up-to-date review of persuasion theory and research. Attempting to show students how these theories can deepen our understanding of how persuasion is practiced in a variety of real-life situations, it is designed as a text for undergraduate students who wish to know more about concepts of "attitude" and "persuasion," as well as introducing graduate students to theory and research in the field of persuasion. With a broad look at persuasion research, this volume examines psychological approaches to persuasion, interpersonal communication theories, and the interface between persuasion and mass communication, in particular mass media information campaigns. It examines research on cognitive processing of persuasive messages, compliance-gaining in interpersonal contexts, and the effects of large-scale health communication campaigns.

Codesign For Public Interest Services written by Daniela Selloni and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-20 with Social Science categories.

This books focuses on co-design, and more specifically, on the various forms co-design might take to tackle the most pressing societal challenges, introducing public-interest services as the main application field. To do so, it presents an extensive study conducted within a particular community of residents in Milan: this is a social innovation story integrated into the discipline of service design, which simultaneously deepens the related concepts of co-design, co-production and co-management of services. Drawing upon this experience and further studies, the book presents the idea of a collaborative infrastructure and its related infrastructuring process in ten steps, in order to explore the issues of incubation and replication of services and to extensively investigate the creation of those experimental spaces in which citizen participation is fostered and innovation in the public realm is pursued. Lastly, the book develops other lines of reflection on co-design seen, for example, as a form of cultural activism, as an instrument for building citizenship, and as a key competence for the public administration and thus as a public service itself. The idea of co-design as a way to regenerate the practices of democracy is a recurring theme throughout the book: co-design is a process that seeks to change the state of things and it is intentionally presented as a long and complex path in which the role of designer is not only that of a facilitator, but also that of a cultural operator who contributes with ideas and visions, hopefully fostering a real cultural change.
