Sherlock Holmes e il dottor Watson si preparano a partecipare alla prima corsa automobilistica d’Inghilterra: la Londra-Brighton. Ma non si tratta di un piacevole passatempo. Holmes, infatti, si è iscritto alla gara per seguire i movimenti del tesoriere della compagnia assicurativa, Lord Farjeon, di cui la moglie aveva denunciato la scomparsa, e di un suo sottoposto, dimissionario dall’incarico e in procinto di partire per l’America. Ai Lloyd’s, già oggetto di una misteriosa visita notturna nelle stanze dell’ufficio protocollo, c’è viva preoccupazione per la partita di diamanti appena acquistati dalla Corona e custoditi proprio nella cassaforte della compagnia. E nonostante le indagini di Holmes e le precauzioni dei Lloyd’s, alla vigilia della corsa la cassaforte viene aperta e quattro diamanti vengono rubati. Non ci sono segni di scasso e tutto sembra indicare che i colpevoli siano il tesoriere scomparso e il suo collaboratore dimissionario. Al termine del viaggio, tra manovre di sorpasso azzardate sotto la pioggia battente e uno sparo che colpisce l’auto di Holmes e Watson, riuscirà il detective di Baker Street, grazie agli indizi raccolti nei giorni precedenti e nel corso della gara, a smascherare i perfidi colpevoli? Nato a Siena nel 1964, ma pratese d’adozione, è giornalista presso l’Ufficio stampa del Consiglio regionale della Toscana. È autore di testi narrativi e teatrali e cene con delitto. Il suo primo romanzo, Il palio di Sherlock Holmes (Alacràn, 2009), è stato tradotto in Francia e in Turchia. Nel 2011 è uscito Lo strano caso del falso Sherlock Holmes (Ur Editore) e l’anno successivo Sherlock Holmes e la morte del cardinale Tosca (Ur Editore), vincitore del premio “Garfagnana in giallo” e finalista del “Premio scrittore toscano dell’anno”. Ha pubblicato anche racconti apocrifi sulla Sherlock Magazine e nelle antologie a cura di Luigi Pachì Le cronache di Sherlock Holmes (Fabbri editore, 2003) e Sherlock Holmes in Italia (Delos Books, 2012). Un suo apocrifo uscirà presto sul Giallo Mondadori.
