Pelinobius muticus, the scientific name for King Baboon Tarantulas, are well-known for their unusual activities and remarkable appearance. Originating in East Africa's woods and savannas, these big terrestrial tarantulas are mostly found in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The moniker "King Baboon" comes from its majestic look, which is characterized by a unique pattern of coloring that resembles baboon fur. Their bodies are coated in thick hair that ranges in color from dark brown to black, with splotches of vivid orange or reddish-brown. This remarkable coloring acts as a warning to potential predators as well as a means of hiding. One of the largest African tarantula species, King Baboon Tarantulas are distinguished by their muscular size, with adult females having leg spans of up to 7 inches (18 centimeters) or more. Male adults usually have smaller legs, averaging 4-5 inches (10-13 centimeters) in length. Apart from their enormous size, King Baboon Tarantulas have strong venom and unique itchy hairs that make them extremely dangerous. Despite their usual shyness and docility, they won't think twice to defend themselves if they feel threatened or provoked. Their venom can produce localized pain, swelling, and discomfort, but it is not thought to be medically relevant for humans. Many tarantula fans are tempted to the appeal of owning King Baboon Tarantulas as pets despite their frightening look and defensive prowess. Their distinct habits, including as digging, creating webs, and hunting strategies, make them intriguing objects to watch and investigate. We will get deeper into the many facets of taking care of and comprehending King Baboon Tarantulas in this book, covering everything from their native habitat and behaviors to useful advice on handling, housing, feeding, and more. Take a trip into the fascinating world of King Baboon Tarantulas as pets, whether you're an experienced keeper or a beginner to the sport.

Neo Imperialism In Children S Literature About Africa written by Yulisa Amadu Maddy and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-28 with Literary Criticism categories.

In the spirit of their last collaboration, Apartheid and Racism in South African Children's Literature, 1985-1995, Yulisa Amadu Maddy and Donnarae MacCann once again come together to expose the neo-imperialist overtones of contemporary children's fiction about Africa. Examining the portrayal of African social customs, religious philosophies, and political structures in fiction for young people, Maddy and MacCann reveal the Western biases that often infuse stories by well-known Western authors. In the book's introductory section, Maddy and MacCann offer historical information concerning Western notions of Africa as "primitive," and then present background information about the complexity of feminism in Africa and about the ongoing institutionalization of racism. The main body of the study contains critiques of the novels or short stories of eleven well-known writers, including Isabel Allende and Nancy Farmer--all demonstrating that children's literature continues to mis-represent conditions and social relations in Africa. The study concludes with a look at those short stories of Beverley Naidoo which bring insight and historical accuracy to South African conflicts and emerging solutions. Educators, literature professors, publishers, professors of Diaspora and African studies, and students of the mass media will find Maddy and MacCann’s critique of racism in the representation of Africa to be indispensible to students of multicultural literature.

The World And The Word written by Nongenile M. Zenani and has been published by Univ of Wisconsin Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992-10-01 with History categories.

A master storyteller of the Xhosa people of South Africa, Nongenile Masithathu Zenani gives us an unprecedented view of an oral society from within. Twenty-four of her complex and beautiful tales about birth, puberty, marriage, and work, as told to the renowned collector of African oral tradition, Harold Scheub, are gathered here. Accompanying the stories are Zenani’s detailed commentaries and analyses and Scheub’s striking photographs of her in performance. The combination of these historical and cultural observations with a richly symbolic collection of tales from a single traditional storyteller make The World and the Word a remarkable document. “The storyteller’s materials are simple,” Zenani told Scheub, “the world, and the word.” She presents to us the entire world of the Xhosa people, how they first came to be, the origins of their customs, how they order their world and deal with transgressors, how they manage all of life’s transitions from birth to death. She depicts both the world as it exists and as it is shaped in the words of the storyteller. Inheriting tales from the Xhosa tradition, Zenani has transformed them into imaginative new stories marked by her own artistry. Scheub’s introduction to The World and the Word discusses Xhosa oral tradition and Zenani’s particular characteristics as an artist within that tradition; Zenani’s personal history and her work as both a storyteller and a healer; and Scheub’s friendship with her and his role in recording her legacy.
