Battling Jack Turpin written by Jackie Turpin and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-21 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Now in his 80th year, 'Battling' Jack Turpin is the last surviving member of his generation of Britain's best-known and best-loved boxing family. Jack's father, Lionel Turpin, came from British Guiana to volunteer for the British Army during the Great War. He was wounded on the battlefields of France and invalided to Warwick, the first black man to settle in the area. Lionel married a local girl but his early death left her struggling to raise their three sons and two daughters in pre-Welfare State England. As young men, the excitement and gladiatorial glamour of the ring lured Jack and his brothers into professional boxing. From a home-made backstreet gymnasium, they punched their way into the record books and into the hearts of the British people. Battling Jack is a wonderfully narrated account of the life and times of a remarkable man who was once Britain's busiest featherweight. It is also the history of the beginnings of a black presence in British boxing. Turpin offers us a ringside seat at heroic battles and comic encounters. He takes us behind the scenes of a scandal that rocked the sporting world and into his confidence about the mystery that surrounds his younger brother's death. Jack Turpin has out-stared ignorance and prejudice, tasted triumph and celebrity, and endured hardship and tragedy. Heart-rending, raw, honest and funny, his is a story that had to be told.

The biography of a pioneer in the mixed martial arts (MMA) scene, this work takes readers through Gary "Big Daddy" Goodridge's entire career - from his rollercoaster formative years and his emergence as a world champion athlete to his role as a loving father struggling to find work. With humble beginnings as an immigrant in a small city in Canada, Goodridge endured bullying as a child and honed his natural strength, athleticism, work ethic, and charisma while fighting on the streets and as a bouncer in clubs. Eventually learning to channel his rage into more productive outlets, Goodridge soon became a world - champion arm wrestler, a boxing champion, a lethal Ultimate Fighting Championship contender, and a renowned MMA warrior. Early in his career, Goodridge used his incredible strength to become the National Amateur Heavyweight Boxing Champ of Canada after only ten months of training. In 1996, he entered the Ultimate Fighting Championships; after knocking out his opponent in under a minute with crushing elbows, he became an immediate mixed martial arts star all over the world. Known as a hardworking warrior who always fought the toughest competition, no matter what the circumstances, Goodridge took on the best heavyweights in the world for over a decade, including U.S. Olympic wrestlers Mark Coleman and Mark Schultz, and combat sport legends, such as Fedor Emelianenko and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Today, Goodridge lives with the physical consequences of a life spent literally battling to pay the bills. My Brother Muhammad Ali written by Rahaman Ali and has been published by Kings Road Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-17 with Sports & Recreation categories.

A Sunday Times Book of the Year 'Rahaman has, at last, written the definitive biography on his late brother, which tells the real Ali story' - Mike Tyson 'The real life of the Great One' - George Foreman More words have been written about Muhammad Ali than almost anyone else. He was, without doubt, the world's most-loved sportsman. At the height of his celebrity he was the most famous person in the world. And yet, until now, the one voice missing belonged to the man who knew him best - his only sibling, and best friend, Rahaman Ali. No one was closer to Ali than Rahaman. Born Cassius and Rudolph Arnett Clay, the two brothers grew up together, lived together, trained together, travelled together, and fought together in the street and in the ring. A constant fixture in his sibling's company, Rahaman saw Ali at both his best and his worst: the relentless prankster and the jealous older brother, the outspoken advocate, the husband and father. In My Brother, Muhammad Ali, he is able to offer a surprising insider's perspective on the well-known stories, as well as never-before-told tales, painting a rich portrait of a proud, relentlessly polarizing, yet often vulnerable man. In this extraordinary, poignant memoir, Rahaman tells a much bigger and more personal story than in any other book on the great man - that of two brothers, almost inseparable from birth to death. It is the final and most important perspective on one of the most iconic figures of the last century.

This book is filled with interviews of some of boxing’s greatest fighters, greatest minds, and biggest hearts. I did my best to capture the mindset of each individual; how boxing perceives them and how they perceive their personal contributions to the sport. Boxing is a very old sport, as is baseball and football. If you compare the injuries by sport, you will see that boxing has the least amount of the three. Today’s boxing still has some work to do, but in my opinion the sport is doing well. There are a lot of very talented up-and-coming fighters climbing the ranks. I hope that more time and money will be spent on the amateur level of this great sport. The amateur level of boxing is where it all begins. Amateur boxing is the foundation; if the foundation is not sound, then the boxing house that the pros live in may come crashing down.
