We grow up thinking there are five senses, but we forget about the ten neglected senses of the body that both enable and limit our experience. Embodied explores the psychology of physical sensation in ten chapters: balance, movement, pressure (acting in gravity), breathing, fatigue, pain, itch, temperature, appetite, and expulsion (the senses of physical matter leaving the body). For each sense, two people are interviewed who live with extreme experiences of the sense being investigated; their stories bring to life how far physical sensations matter to us and how much they define what is possible in our life. How physical sensation shapes behavior and how behavior is shaped by sensation are examined. A final chapter presents a theory of what is common across the ten senses: of how we deal with being urged to act, and what happens when extreme sensation is inescapable.

A popular aphorism suggests that in the end, no one ever regretted not spending more time in the office. Yet during our lives and careers we often seem to confuse our priorities, shifting our focus so that we end up with clients whom we know extremely well and families who are de facto strangers. In this book, widely renowned consultant Alan Weiss—cited as "a worldwide expert in executive education" in Success Magazine—tells how to blend life, work, and relationships in a way that will help anyone to work smarter and live better. Weiss draws on scores of interviews and vignettes with highly successful consultants to offer nontheoretical, pragmatic advice on living a balanced life, including how to: Work smart and not hard Have time to fulfill your passions Build on success, not on correcting weakness Give yourself short- and long-term personal rewards Take risks and reinvent yourself (again and again) Play to win— but ignore the score and reward the effort Influence others while surrendering the need to control Visualize the future

Power of Balance is the landmark memoir from Dr Kerryn Phelps AM that explores the events and ideas that have inspired her to create change throughout her lifetime. From medicine, media, politics, advocacy and activism, Kerryn has led a remarkable life of changemaking in many domains. One of Australia's first ‘TV doctors’, Dr Kerryn Phelps served as President of the Australian Medical Association, Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney, and a key leader of Australia's LGBT+ community. Little did she know, as she celebrated the historic Marriage Equality win in 2017, that she would be back just one year later as a Member of Parliament, having been elected as an independent by the people of Wentworth after a leadership coup ousted Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull. In her memoir, Dr Kerryn candidly explores her struggles and achievements, in medicine, media and politics – from her advocacy around Medevac and COVID-19 management, to the fallout of her public ‘outing’ in the Australian media, and her inspirational role in the Teal movement of the 2022 elections. She also reflects on the ideas and passions that have motivated and sustained her during these times, including her philosophies of leadership and equality, and her love of nature. Power of Balance is a compelling and thought-provoking read that will inspire others to become leaders and changemakers.
