"EMMANUEL ARYA BRAMANTYO"

Kadek is a powerful Silat-trained martial artist living in Bali during the colonial era. When the Dutch consolidate there hold, Kadek finds herself drawn into the resistance movement, fighting to protect her people from the horrors of occupation. Along the way, she forms a passionate connection with a Dutch soldier, a love that transcends time and continents. Decades later, Samantha, an American history graduate with a fascination for Southeast Asia, travels to Bali seeking answers about her family's past. As she uncovers the stories of Kadek and the resistance movement, Samantha discovers a history of courage, sacrifice, and unimaginable horror. Intertwining the stories of Kadek and Samantha, "Island of Resistance" is a thrilling tale of love, war, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. As I structured this book it became apparent that the Balinese, this wonderful Island, these passive people had endured untold horror disproportionate to their character. It is a story of two primary characters. Kadek a powerful Silat trained Martial art expert, a freedom fighter. It is a story of her relationship with a Dutch soldier whom the passion of love knows no bounds and spans time and continents and is initially set during the early 1900s Colonial era, and spans to current day. Love and tragedy. The Balinese people are known for their beauty, grace, and devotion to their culture and traditions. Yet, beneath the surface, there lies a history of hardship and suffering that has remained largely untold. It is a history that deserves to be heard, and in this book, we hear the story of two extraordinary individuals whose lives intersect during a time of great upheaval. Kadek, a skilled martial artist trained in the traditional art of Silat, is a woman whose strength and courage belie her small stature. Her story is one of resilience, as she survives the Japanese occupation of Bali during World War II. It is a story about her relationship, her love for a Dutch soldier Pieter, As we delve into Kadek's past and follow her journey, we witness the horrors of war, the brutality of colonialism, and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Through her eyes, we see a Bali that is both beautiful and tragic, a place where love and loyalty are tested in the most trying of circumstances. This book is a testament to the power of storytelling, to the resilience of the human spirit, and to the enduring bonds of love that can overcome even the greatest of obstacles. It is a story that will stay with you long after you turn the last page, and one that will leave you with a deeper appreciation for the complexities of history and the strength of the human heart. It is a life intertwined with Samantha's life, Samantha who is from Boston Massachusetts born in 1999 over 100 years later, an American history graduate with a fascination for South East Asia. Looking to find answers she makes the trip to Bali. Answers she finds. But! Was she ready for them? Samantha's journey to Bali leads her down a path of discovery she never expected. As she immerses herself in the culture and history of the island, she learns of Kadek's story and the harrowing events that took place during the Japanese occupation. Samantha becomes drawn into Kadek's world, uncovering secrets and discovering the true nature of love, sacrifice, and the strength of the human spirit. As Samantha delves deeper into Kadek's past, she realizes that her journey to Bali was more than just a search for answers. It was a journey of self-discovery, one that would challenge her beliefs and open her heart to a new understanding of the world around her. Will Samantha have the courage to face the truth and find the closure she seeks? Or will the mysteries of the past be too much for her to bear?

Started in 1958, Sanathana Sarathi is a monthly magazine devoted to Sathya (Truth), Dharma (Righteousness), Shanti (Peace) and Prema (Love) - the four cardinal principles of Bhagawan Baba's philosophy. It is published from Prasanthi Nilayam (the Abode of Highest Peace) and acts as a mouthpiece of Baba's Ashram as it speaks of the important events that take place in His sacred Abode, besides carrying Divine Messages conveyed through Divine Discourses of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. The word meaning of Sanathana Sarathi is the 'Eternal Charioteer'. It signifies the presence of the Lord in every being as the atma guiding their lives like a charioteer. It implies that he who places his life, the body being likened to a chariot, in an attitude of surrender in the hands of the Lord, will be taken care of by the Lord even as a charioteer would take the occupant of his chariot safely to its destination. The magazine is an instrument to disseminate spiritual knowledge for the moral, physical and mental uplift of humanity without any discrimination as the subject matter discussed therein is always of common interest and of universal appeal. The fifteen Vahinis - streams of sacredness - known as the Vahini Series comprising annotation and interpretation of the Upanishads and other scriptures, Itihasas like the Ramayana, the Bhagavatha and the Mahabharata, and authentic explanations on Dhyana, Dharma, Prema, etc., have been serially published in this magazine as and when they emanated from the Divine pen of Bhagawan Baba. Love And Death In Bali written by Vicki Baum and has been published by Tuttle Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-20 with Fiction categories.

Set in the first decade of the 20th century, this moving book shares the tragic reality of the Dutch invasion of Bali and the mass suicides that ensued. In Love and Death in Bali, renowned author Vicki Baum skillfully intermeshes several different narratives that all culminate in the infamous puputan (the "ending"), the slaughter and mass suicides that brought the old Bali to an end in 1906. Written within living memory of these bloody events, the book tells the story of the passionate and deeply spiritual people who defy Dutch imperial forces through an act that brings them certain death--and certain rebirth. The looting of a Chinese trading ship gives the Dutch colonial forces the perfect excuse to intervene in island affairs, but they encounter astonishing resistance. In the battle of Badung, wave upon wave of Balinese clothed in white ceremonial garb charge into the blazing Dutch guns, kris daggers in hand, prepared to die. Who among them will survive, and how will their lives be forever changed? Love and Death in Bali, first published in German in 1937, is considered by many to be the finest novel ever written about this island paradise where everyone, regardless of caste or position, is woven into the fabric of an ancient culture, connected by customs and, above all, by strong religious beliefs. In this edition, anthropologist and award-winning author Nigel Barkley's introduction provides excellent context for the complex, dramatic tale that follows.

Myth, in such a scenario, comes forward to guide the masses with the wisdom and experiences of ages. It not only acts as a manifesto for the present social order but works as a demonstration pattern of ethical values, sociological order, and miraculous conviction also so that traditional values can be strengthened to the extent that these can accommodate the changing form of long-established concept of morality. Myth finds expression through various forms of art. Literature is one such form that makes us see beyond obvious and what the front door shows. It takes man to discover, inquire and construct new knowledge. Literature is a means to leap into the past through myth, history and legends. Literature, especially drama is such a form of art that reflects and expresses the inner sections of human mind in a better way. It depicts man, family, community, nation and world with all the possible tinges of truth. It not only affirms faith but can challenge long-held beliefs as well. It has been a strong medium to convey deeper meanings of life in its true and vivid colours.

As much Charlene shows her beauty with the elegance of dress and fame, Sadhana shows her beauty with simplicity and self-pride. Indeed, both deserve to have captured one common heart – that of Bali’s – but sadly, only one is to keep it. In love, to sacrifice for peace and humility, is a true love in itself – a captivating story, internationally set, brings the climax of joy, anguish, sentiment, and sacrifice in this true love scenario of the three people. An interesting read and immensely enjoyable.

Animal Sacrifice Religion And Law In South Asia written by Daniela Berti and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-13 with Social Science categories.

This book presents original research on the controversies surrounding animal sacrifice in South Asia through the lens of court cases. It focuses on the parties involved in these cases: on their discourses, motivations, and contrasting points of view. Through an examination of judicial files, court decisions and newspaper articles, and interviews with protagonists, the book explores how the question of animal sacrifice is dealt with through administrative, legislative, and judicial practice. It outlines how, although animal sacrifice has over the ages been contested by various religious reform movements, the practice has remained widespread at all levels of society, especially in certain regions. It reveals that far from merely being a religious and ritual question, animal sacrifice has become a focus of broader public debate, and it discusses how the controversies highlight the contrast between ‘traditional’ and ‘reformist’ understandings of Hinduism; the conflict between the core legal and moral principles of religious freedom and social progress; and the growing concern with environmental issues and animal rights. The Introduction, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 7 of this book are available for free in PDF format as Open Access from the individual product page at www.taylorfrancis.com. It has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivatives 4.0 International license. Funded by Centre National de la Recherche Scientific.
