The Jam Paul Weller Shout To The Top written by Dennis Munday and has been published by Omnibus Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-11-04 with Music categories.

The inside story of The Jam and The Style Council by the man who oversaw their careers! Record industry executive Dennis Munday's frank account reveals the trials and triumphs of Paul Weller's career, from The Jam's first single in 1977 to the break-up of The Style Council in 1989. He also writes about Weller's post-style Council solo career with a unique insight. Working for Polydor, the author became a regular presence at the two groups' many recording sessions, effectively becoming an honorary member of both The Jam and The Style Council. Despite a sometimes stormy relationship with the band members - and eventually leaving Polydor - Munday was the vital link between Paul Weller and his record company or years. Here then is a uniquely intimate portrait of a rock hero and two influential groups written by someone who was at the heart of the action. This new edition of Shout To The Top has been updated to include details of Paul's new album 22 Dreams, ongoing changes in the line-up to his band and the emergence of From The Jam, the group featuring Paul's former colleagues Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler which is touring the world performing a set of Jam songs to great acclaim.

Catherine Littlefield written by Sharon Skeel and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-03 with Music categories.

While she is best remembered today as founder of the Philadelphia Ballet and the director and driving force behind the famous Littlefield School of Ballet, from which Balanchine drew the nucleus for his School of American Ballet, Catherine Littlefield (1905-51) and her oeuvre were in many ways emblematic of the full representation of dance throughout entertainments of the first half of the 20th century. From her early work as a teenager dancing for Florenz Ziegfeld to her later work in choreographing extravagant ice skating shows, a remarkable dance with 90 bicyclists for the 1940 World's Fair, and on television as resident choreographer for The Jimmy Durante Show, Littlefield was amongst the first choreographers to bring concert dance to broader venues, and her legacy lives on today in her enduring influence on generations of American ballet dancers. As the first biography of Littlefield, Catherine Littlefield: A Life in Dance traces her life in full from birth through childhood experiences dancing on the Academy of Music's grand stage, and from her foundation of the groundbreaking Philadelphia Ballet Company in 1935 to her later work in television and beyond. Littlefield counted among her many glamorous friends and colleagues writer Zelda Fitzgerald, conductor Leopold Stokowski, and composer Kurt Weill. This biography also provides an engrossing portrait of the remarkable Littlefield family, many of whom were instrumental to Catherine's success. With the unflagging support of her generous husband and indomitable mother, Littlefield gave shape to the course of American ballet in the 20th century long before Balanchine arrived in the United States.

My Vancouver Dance History written by Peter Dickinson and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-20 with Performing Arts categories.

In the past decade, Vancouver dance has received tremendous acclaim nationally and internationally, as witnessed by the success of choreographer Crystal Pite and a rejuvenated Ballet BC. But this is only part of a vibrant and diverse story of contemporary movement practices in the city. In My Vancouver Dance History Peter Dickinson crafts an embodied narrative that focuses on his critical and creative collaborations with nine Vancouver-based dance artists and companies. Mixing interview excerpts with fieldwork descriptions of studio research and performance analysis, Dickinson draws on ten years of close observation to delve into the individual histories of select members of this community, while also relating the cumulative story of Vancouver dance production and performance as it has unfolded in the past decade. The voices of other invested participants interpolate this rich history, and chapters are interspersed with a series of "movement intervals" that reflect key moments in Dickinson's history as a spectator, scholar, and collaborator. In innovative ways, Dickinson suggests that when we pay attention to the larger social topography of dance practice - the sites that give rise to it, the labour that goes into it, and the professional friendships it engenders - we can properly understand dance's contributions to civic life.
