Bardskull is the record of three journeys made by Martin Shaw, the celebrated storyteller and interpreter of myth, in the year before he turned fifty. It is unlike anything he has written before. This is not a book about myth or narrative: rather, it is a sequence of incantations, a series of battles. Each of the three journeys sees Shaw walk alone into a Dartmoor forest and wait. What arrive are stories – fragments of myth that he has carried within him for decades: the deep history of Dartmoor itself; the lives of distant family members; Arthurian legend; and tales from India, Persia, Lapland, the Caucasus and Siberia. But these stories and their tellers don’t arrive as the bearers of solace or easy wisdom. As with all quests, Shaw is entering a domain of traps and tests. Bardskull can be read as a fable, as memoir, as auto-fiction or as an attempt to undomesticate myth. It is a magnificent, unclassifiable work of the imagination.

In Scatterlings Martin Shaw walks the myth-lines of seven stories based in and around his homeland of Dartmoor, England. Rather than the commentaries on such tales being primarily balanced against other literary sources, Shaw uses what actually occurs on these walks as the main source of information on the tales. The swoop of raven, the swamp, the thinking that moves through him, all form a knot of relationship between the land and the story. As he walks he tells the story of the place back to itself. This is a highly unusual move for a mythologist, an aspiration to use speech as form of animistic relationship, of binding, of praise to a place. In a time of rapid migrations and climatic movement, Shaw asks: how could we be not just from a place but of a place? When did we trade shelter for comfort? what was the cost of that trade? What are the stories the west tells itself in private? Scatterlings also takes us on a wonder through the wild edges of British culture, a story of secret histories: from the ancient storytelling of the bardic schools to medieval dream poetry, from the cunning man to animal call words, to Arabian and steppe Iranian influence on English dialect. Through its astonishing journey, Shaw reveals to us that when you gaze deep enough into the local you find the nomad, and when you look deep enough into the nomad you find the local. Scatterlings is a rebel keen, a rising up, to bend your head to the stories and place that claim you.

Courting The Wild Twin written by Martin Shaw and has been published by Chelsea Green Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Fiction categories.
Master mythologist Martin Shaw uses timeless story-wisdom to examine our broken relationship with the world There is an old legend that says we each have a wild, curious twin that was thrown out the window the night we were born, taking much of our vitality with them. If there was something we were meant to do with our few, brief years on Earth, we can be sure that the wild twin is holding the key. In Courting the Wild Twin, Dr. Martin Shaw invites us to seek out our wild twin--a metaphor for the part of ourselves that we generally shun or ignore to conform to societal norms--to invite them back into our consciousness, for they have something important to tell us. He challenges us to examine our broken relationship with the world, to think boldly, wildly, and in new ways about ourselves--as individuals and as a collective. Through the use of scholarship, storytelling, and personal reflection, Shaw unpacks two ancient European fairy tales that concern the mysterious wild twin. By reading these tales and becoming storytellers ourselves, he suggests we can restore our agency and confront modern challenges with purpose, courage, and creativity. Courting the Wild Twin is a declaration of literary activism and an antidote to the shallow thinking that typifies our age. Shaw asks us to recognize mythology as a secret weapon--a radical, beautiful, heart-shuddering agent of deep, lasting change.

In Snowy Tower, Dr. Martin Shaw continues his trilogy of works on the relationship between myth, wilderness, and a culture of wildness. In this second book, he gives a telling of the Grail epic Parzival. Claiming it as a great trickster story of medieval Europe, he offers a deft and erudite commentary, with topics ranging from climate change and the soul to the discipline of erotic consciousness, from the hallucination of empire to a revisioning of the dark speech of the ancient bards. Ingrained in the very syntax of Snowy Tower is an invocation of what Shaw calls 'wild mythologies' -- stories that are more than just human allegory, that seem to brush the winged thinking of owl, stream, and open moor. This daring work offers a connection to the genius of the margins; that the big questions of today will not be solved by big answers, but by the myriad of associations that both myth and wilderness offer.

Reader beware! This is a big story so it takes volumes of pages to explain the details. However under the heading of Thunder at Dawn, a lot transpires. The beings who participate in the adventure are the particularly stubborn type, brimming over with the will to live. At times the characters face a struggle to survive within their habitat that appears to be more like a living hell. However, to Leon Davith, his Golem son Bard along with his Enchantress companion who is called Quill , team up with two Warrior Ferries who believe that joining with these eccentrics to seek a high and mighty adventure is pure heaven. But all that changes! Bard chanced to carry the Mighty Sword, as he approached the Gnomish City located on the Threshold of the Unknown he noticed how after unsheathing Thunder At Dawn' it reacted by jolting, hissing along with emitting the battery of sparks. It was said that thunder at Dawn was forged from a brilliant lightning bolt striking Dawn itself. Leon the Grand Wizard said that Thunder at Dawn was forged from was forged from a brilliant lighting bolt striking Dawn itself. Meanwhile Quill loaded airship to make a lengthy journey Moreover Erin in Leda returned to Eleven Sky City to insure the well being of the inhabitants. Bard began studying the course and laying the navigations down, while Leon left on an errand to the Empire across the ocean that was headed by the Seer of Shadows, who'd doubtless was elated by the news of the Dark Lords resignation. For the moment Leon had other concerns he brought several things with him namely a phial of the cure he could replicate a phial of Blue Rose potion Yaga had given him, he could now create it at any time, for Blue Roses were a mercifully common plant in many parts of the world and quite easily procured. In one instance Erin and Leda glanced up to see a renewed Leo entered the room, is this size having been returned to its youthful state thanks to the Blue Rose Potion he'd drank. Leon? Don't I get a sit of the cure-all for Crow's feet?" Quill shouted in mock outrage. Quill raised out of her chair to grab the now youthful Leon Davith in a headlock. 'Just allow me to use that potion you stupid jerk!" She snarled, rubbing the wizards scalp raw with her fist. In another less than humorous incident was God came to stand before Bard. "Give that cursed weapon to me boy", said the god. Thunder at Dawn's true form went alight once more and began sending pillars of energy forth even as a lure slowly rose to his feet single-mindedly racing for his friends Bard on the other hand slowly advanced on thunder at Dawn even as it sent waves upon waves of energy after Bard blown back again and again the Golan stubbornly held on as he rushed to the sword stabbing it with its counter shadow blade his intuition paid off. in The black energies of that weapon left the hilt and immediately began corrupting the towering blade of raw energy . thus, chaos had been stopped before his plans could be once again set back into motion. What was the first "as the demon Lord Constable meanwhile back in God sheathe, the red warrior stood before the remains of thunder at Dawn, grabbing up Shadow Blade's hilt and smiling with the remains of its black energy issued forth sheathing the weapon, sheathing the weapon he left whistling to his Emerald Bird the two flew off leaving the cursed remains of Thunder at Dawn far behind as well as pursuit of the sword. Read realized it was time to make tracks. The two flew off leaving the cursed remains of thunder at Dawn far behind as well as his pursuit of the sword better to leave it at that for no sword designed to destroy the world was worth wielding, that he knew for sure. Finally near the end it was concluded that to great swords could not coexist." We should remain apart while we have the weapons." Bard sighed"
