Das Mannheimer Schloss entstand ab 1720 unter Kurfürst Carl Philipp als eine der größten Barockanlagen Europas. Als Residenz in der Kurpfalz erfreute sich der Hof eines ausgezeichneten Rufs als Zentrum von Kultur, Kunst und Wissenschaft. Nach dem Umzug Carl Theodors nach München und der Verlegung der Hofhaltung des großherzoglichen Hauses nach Karlsruhe nutzte man Schloss Mannheim als Sitz von Gerichten, Schulen und Behörden. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde es fast völlig zerstört. Mit dem Aufbau ab 1947 stellte man nur wenige der Prunkräume wieder her. Nun wird die 'Krone der Kurpfalz' zu neuem Leben erweckt: Nach mehrjähriger Bauzeit erhielt das Schloss seine historischen Mansarddächer sowie seine Beletage mit den wiedereingerichteten Prunkräumen zurück. Sie bilden die Kulisse für rund 800 originale Kunstschätze, die von der einstigen Pracht der Hofhaltung künden. Der Führer stellt die Geschichte des Schlosses vor und begleitet den Besucher durch die Prunkräume und das ebenfalls neu eingerichtete Schlossmuseum.
