The immune system can be divided into two major components: the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. The innate immune system is the first line of defense and provides a rapid response to any foreign invader. It includes physical barriers such as the skin and mucous membranes, as well as various cells and molecules that act quickly to neutralize pathogens. On the other hand, the adaptive immune system is highly specific and provides long-term protection.
