Kate Riley is not the sort of heroine we meet in most American novels. Self-centered, shape-shifting, driven from one man to another and one city to the next, she is all too realbut not at all the loyal and steady homebody of idealized womanhood. When we first encounter her, Kate (or Katherine, or Kate of the Prairie, or Katrina) is about to undergo exploratory brain surgery for a condition she herself has fabricated.

"The Wind Among the Reeds" is a collection of poetry by the renowned Irish poet W. B. Yeats. Published in 1899, this collection is characterized by its exploration of themes related to nature, mythology, and the mystical aspects of Irish folklore. The poems within the collection often depict the interplay between the human and natural worlds, with a particular focus on the spiritual and emotional experiences of individuals. Yeats employs his signature lyrical style to create vivid imagery that captures the essence of Ireland's landscapes and cultural heritage. The collection showcases Yeats' fascination with symbolism and his desire to delve into the profound symbolism of Irish myths and legends. Through a blend of romanticism and Celtic mysticism, "The Wind Among the Reeds" remains a notable contribution to Yeats' body of work and to Irish poetry as a whole.

DescriptionThis is the story of Peter McFarlane's journey back from the brink of madness, following years of sexual abuse. His childhood was blighted with this secret and cynical disease, and his life became filled with hidden remnants of fear, affecting all relationships and colouring all experiences. Unconscious memories of abuse were awakened, due to the trauma of a car crash, and he met Dr Christian Langford who became his psychiatrist. Hearing from Peter about some of the recalled incidents, psychogenic amnesia was diagnosed, where the pain of remembering is so great that, for survival, a person finds it necessary to forget. Young Peter had grown up with only a few friends on the remote and sparsely populated Scottish island he loves, discovering his homosexuality when he was still very young. In the course of his therapy, Langford discovered that Peter was also suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder, induced by post traumatic stress. The full extent of his mental health problem was revealed, and Peter's doctor was challenged to find a working cure that would give him back sufficient elements of his fractured life with which he could begin to piece together the stolen years of his life. About the AuthorRon McLachlan was born in 1951, and now lives and writes in Wemyss Bay, a small coastal town in the west of Scotland. Ron has published a trilogy of novels, and has won, or been shortlisted, in a number of international, national, and local short story competitions. He has written another novel entitled The Saviour, and, in 2005, began a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing, in New Jersey. As a child, he suffered years of abuse that led ultimately to years of therapy. "All my life," he says, "I have just been trying to survive."

From the renowned Booker Prize–winning author, a powerful collection of poems covering topics of the day, such as the refugee crisis, Black Lives Matter protests, and COVID-19. In our times of crisis The mind has its powers This book brings together many of Ben Okri’s most acclaimed and politically charged poems. “Grenfell Tower, June 2017” was published in the Financial Times less than ten days after the fire, and Okri’s reading of it was played more than six million times on Facebook. “Notre-Dame Is Telling Us Something” was first read on BBC Radio 4, in the aftermath of the cathedral’s near destruction. It speaks eloquently of the despair that was felt around the world. In “shaved head poem,” Okri writes of the confusion and anxiety felt as the world grappled with a health crisis unprecedented in our times. “Breathing the Light” is his response to the events of summer 2020, when a Black man died beneath the knee of a white policeman, a tragedy sparking a movement for change. These poems and others, including poems for Ken Saro-Wiwa, Barack Obama, Amnesty International, and more, make this a uniquely powerful collection that blends anger and tenderness with Okri’s inimitable vision.
