Talking Texts written by Rosalind Horowitz and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-25 with Education categories.

This volume examines how oral and written language function in school learning , and how oral texts can be successfully inter-connected to the written texts that are used on a daily basis in schools. Rather than argue for the prominence of one over the other, the goal is to help the reader gain a rich understanding of how both might work together to create a new discourse that ultimately creates new knowledge. Talking Texts: Provides historical background for the study of talk and text Presents examples of children’s and adolescents’ natural conversations as analyzed by linguists Addresses talk as it interfaces with domains of knowledge taught in schools to show how talk is related to and may be influenced by the structure, language, and activities of a specific discipline. Bringing together seminal lines of research to create a cohesive picture of discourse issues germane to classrooms and other learning settings, this volume is an essential resource for researchers, graduate students, classroom teachers, and curriculum specialists across the fields of discourse studies, literacy and English education, composition studies, language development, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics.

White Feminism written by Koa Beck and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-01-07 with Social Science categories.

‘Koa Beck writes with passion and insight about the knotted history of racism within women’s movements and feminist culture, past and present. Curious, rigorous, and ultimately generous, White Feminism is a pleasure and an education.’ Rebecca Traister, New York Times bestselling author of Good and Mad 'Intellectually smart and emotionally intelligent, Beck brilliantly articulates how feminism has failed women of colour and non-binary people. She illuminates the broad landscapes of systemic oppression and demands that white feminism evolve lest it continue to be as oppressive as the patriarchy.' Patrisse Khan-Cullors, cofounder of Black Lives Matter, author of When They Call You a Terrorist and joint recipient of the Sydney Peace Prize 'Don’t judge this book by its cover. Koa Beck knows that feminism includes all women and girls by definition, and is writing to overcome anti-feminist divisions that divide and defeat us.' Gloria Steinem A timely and impassioned exploration of how our society has commodified feminism and continues to systemically shut out women of colour. Join the important conversation about race, empowerment, and inclusion with this powerful new feminist classic and rousing call for change. Koa Beck, writer and former editor-in-chief of Jezebel, boldly examines the history of feminism, from the true mission of the suffragettes to the rise of corporate feminism with clear-eyed scrutiny and meticulous detail. She also examines overlooked communities, including Native American, Muslim, transgender, and more - and their difficult and ongoing struggles for social change. In these pages she meticulously documents how elitism and racial prejudice has driven the narrative of feminist discourse. She blends pop culture, primary historical research, and first-hand storytelling to show us how we have shut women out of the movement, and what we can do to change things for a new generation. Combining a scholar’s understanding with hard data and razor-sharp cultural commentary, White Feminism is a witty, intelligent and profoundly eye-opening book that will challenge long-accepted conventions and completely upend the way we understand the struggle for women’s equality.

This novel is not modern but contemporary. The main theme of it is the mystery of human resurrection. Right from the 'popular' Preamble, which seems to have nothing to do with what follows, to the final section when the writer steps into the body of the novel and succeeds in substantially affecting one of his personal inventions, the shape of the novel is continually transformed. An accommodation of this theme cannot but confront certain philosophical dilemmas, such as the notion of a standard identity and the validity and ethic of suffering. Also the device of author and writer as two entities has been made use of for the sake of creative integrity. Doubtless there will be those who find this book heavy going, however the reward for persevering is not negligible.
