With this in view, therefore, the attempt has been made for the first time to identify the various islands he enumerates. Of the selections as a whole, one thing only remains to be said. It will be seen that in some cases the original language has been preserved, and in others modern ised. A satisfactory reason for this distinction seemed to be that where the change has been made, the original presented difficulties to the modern reader which it was desirable to obviate in the case of such a volume as the present.
