The system of linear differential equations which indicated the approach of separation and the so-called "boundary-layer thickness" by Gruschwitz is extended in this report to include the case where the friction layer is subject to centrifugal forces. Evaluation of the data yields a strong functional dependence of the momentum change and wall drag on the boundary-layer thickness radius of curvature ratio for the wall. It is further shown that the transition from laminar to turbulent flow occurs at somewhat higher Reynolds Numbers at the convex wall than at the flat plate, due to the stabilizing effect of the centrifugal forces.

The rupture-test characteristics at 1350 degrees F of two wrought alloys in the solution-treated and aged condition, NR-82 (6059 modified-low carbon) and NR-84 (N-155 modified-low carbon), and three precision-cast alloys in aged condition, NR-71 (X-40), NR-87 (Co-Cr-Ni base-9Mo) and NR-90 (Co-Cr-Ni base-5Mo, 5W) are reported. The properties are shown to compare favorably with those of the strongeest similar alloys previously investigated. A correlation of NACA and OSRD data is presented, showing the variation of ruture strengths with temperature for the alloys between 1350 degrees and 2000 degrees F.

They, in combination with the fatigue strength diagram of the employed material, afford for each engine power one certain operating point by which the state of stress serving as a basis for the design of the root is defined. Different stress cases must be analyzed, depending on the vibration tendency of engine and use of propeller. The solution affords an insight into the possible introduction of different size classes of propeller.
