This is a work of unprecedented scope, tracing the origins of Jewish autobiographical writing from the early modern period to the early twentieth century. Drawing on a multitude of Hebrew and Yiddish texts, very few of which have been translated into English, and on contemporary autobiographical theory, this book provides a literary/historical explanatory paradigm for the emergence of the Jewish autobiographical voice. The book also provides the English reader with an introduction to the works of central figures in the history of Hebrew and Yiddish literature, and it includes discussion of material that has never been submitted to literary critical analysis in English.

Being alone yourself can be interpreted as negative and lonely in today's fast-paced and frequently crowded environment. However, this book challenges you to see things differently and appreciate the advantages of living alone. It offers useful advice and techniques on how to intentionally schedule alone time in order to improve your self-awareness, foster your creativity, and strengthen your inner resolve. There is more to ''The Art of Being Alone'' than meets the eye. It tells the tale of my life. I've spent much of my life by myself. I still am, too. The only thing that has changed is that now I love every day by myself, doing the things I have always wanted to do, and using my "alone time" to GROW MYSELF and create the life of my dreams instead of wishing for the kind of best friend who would save me. And I want to walk you through the process of learning to be okay with being by myself through my book. I've ignored my soul and waited for me to take care of myself for the most of my life, hoping that people would stay or enjoy themselves with me. I am aware that loneliness is difficult. But alone is great, I assure you. And it's even more incredible when you use that time to create your ideal life, accomplish your objectives, and rediscover your inner self-love. Because we have been led to believe that loneliness is a sin, we fear being alone. Furthermore, we frequently lose ourselves and wind up doing things we originally detested in the process of searching for people. How come? Why are you willing to accept the bare minimum because you detest the thought of being with yourself so much? But it's got to end. This book has been separated into two pieces by me. The topic of turning loneliness into solitude is covered and how you can use your alone time to accelerate your personal development. Welcome to "The Art of Being Alone" if you're prepared to change the way you think about loneliness and if you're determined to use your "alone time" to accomplish your goals. "The Art of Being Alone" is a book for anyone who wants to discover how to make the most of their alone time so that they can embrace their present life and feel motivated to pursue their ideal one. It's time to change the tide and create the life you have always desired if you are still victimising your character because you were left behind.

First published with great success in 1979, and now reissued with an updated Preface, Leave Yourself Alone is a book Eugenia Price’s readers will want to add to their personal collection of her writings. According to Eugenia Price, the emotionally healthy person is the one who is focused outside of the self, and whose attention is directed toward God and other people. In Leave Yourself Alone, she explores specific areas of life–work, prayer, conversation, relationships–where people can and should “leave themselves alone.” In her own inimitable and charming style, Ms. Price prods her readers to turn to Him in times of trouble. She states, “As long as we are pulled inward, wringing our own hands in despair and self-attention, we don’t have a free hand to reach for God’s grace. If we mean to leave ourselves alone, we must keep a free hand for what He has to give. He always knows exactly what we need.”

"From the author of "The Darcys of Pemberley" comes a new story, straight out of the world of Jane Austen and told in a style reminiscent of her six classic novels. Set in nineteenth century Hampshire and Bath, "For Myself Alone" is the tale of Josephine Walker, a bright, young woman whose quiet life is turned upside-down by an unexpected inheritance. With a tempting fortune of twenty thousand pounds, she's suddenly the most popular girl in town. Yet Jo longs to be valued for who she is, not for her bank balance. She cannot respect the men who pursue her for her money, and the only one she does admire is considered the rightful property of her best friend. Now, even the motives of her new fiance are suspect. Does he truly love her for herself alone? There's one sure, but extreme, way to find out... if Jo has the courage to take it. "For Myself Alone" will appeal to those who long for more Jane Austen, for more stories like the ones she told written in the elegant language of her time. Just for fun, the author has sprinkled lines from Jane Austen works throughout the text for fans to find."--Amazon.com

'Full of heart.' Michael Harris, author of Solitude Being alone isn't something to endure - it's something to relish. ________ The average adult spends about a third of his or her waking time alone. Yet research suggests we aren't very good at using, never mind enjoying, alone time. Rising to the challenge, travel writer Stephanie Rosenbloom explores the joys and benefits of being alone in four mouth-watering journeys to the cities of Paris, Istanbul, Florence and New York, in four seasons. This is a book about the pleasures and benefits of savouring the moment, examining things closely, using all your senses to take in your surroundings, whether travelling to faraway places or walking the streets of your own city. Through on-the-ground observations and anecdotes, and drawing on the thinking of artists, writers and innovators who have cherished solitude, Alone Time illuminates the psychological arguments for alone time and lays bare the magic of going solo.

How To Be Alone written by Jonathan Franzen and has been published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-05-15 with Literary Collections categories.

Passionate, strong-minded nonfiction from the National Book Award-winning author of The Corrections Jonathan Franzen's The Corrections was the best-loved and most-written-about novel of 2001. Nearly every in-depth review of it discussed what became known as "The Harper's Essay," Franzen's controversial 1996 investigation of the fate of the American novel. This essay is reprinted for the first time in How to be Alone, along with the personal essays and the dead-on reportage that earned Franzen a wide readership before the success of The Corrections. Although his subjects range from the sex-advice industry to the way a supermax prison works, each piece wrestles with familiar themes of Franzen's writing: the erosion of civic life and private dignity and the hidden persistence of loneliness in postmodern, imperial America. Recent pieces include a moving essay on his father's stuggle with Alzheimer's disease (which has already been reprinted around the world) and a rueful account of Franzen's brief tenure as an Oprah Winfrey author. As a collection, these essays record what Franzen calls "a movement away from an angry and frightened isolation toward an acceptance--even a celebration--of being a reader and a writer." At the same time they show the wry distrust of the claims of technology and psychology, the love-hate relationship with consumerism, and the subversive belief in the tragic shape of the individual life that help make Franzen one of our sharpest, toughest, and most entertaining social critics.

The former Sex & Relationships Editor for Cosmopolitan and host of the wildly popular comedy show Tinder Live with Lane Moore presents her poignant, funny, and deeply moving first book. Lane Moore is a rare performer who is as impressive onstage—whether hosting her iconic show Tinder Live or being the enigmatic front woman of It Was Romance—as she is on the page, as both a former writer for The Onion and an award-winning sex and relationships editor for Cosmopolitan. But her story has had its obstacles, including being her own parent, living in her car as a teenager, and moving to New York City to pursue her dreams. Through it all, she looked to movies, TV, and music as the family and support systems she never had. From spending the holidays alone to having better “stranger luck” than with those closest to her to feeling like the last hopeless romantic on earth, Lane reveals her powerful and entertaining journey in all its candor, anxiety, and ultimate acceptance—with humor always her bolstering force and greatest gift. How to Be Alone is a must-read for anyone whose childhood still feels unresolved, who spends more time pretending to have friends online than feeling close to anyone in real life, who tries to have genuine, deep conversations in a roomful of people who would rather you not. Above all, it’s a book for anyone who desperately wants to feel less alone and a little more connected through reading her words.
