Home isn't safe for young Alessa because her uncle lives there...unfortunately neither are the streets. The beginning of this story is based on Paige Dearth's life. The remainder of this book is fiction.Alessa's uncle is a child predator, and she's one of his victims. At sixteen, after the death of her only friend, Alessa finds herself isolated at home with her uncle. Unable to live there, she runs away.Alone on the streets of North Philadelphia, she encounters more people who hurt her. About to hit rock bottom, Alessa breaks free from her new tormentors and finds refuge in a shelter for homeless and abused women.Wherever she goes, however, trouble keeps seeking her out, until she meets three people who change the course of her life. Though Alessa's bittersweet journey is fraught with challenges, she does, nevertheless, find fleeting moments of joy. Then, as she settles down, a ghost from the past comes to haunt her, threatening to destroy the very foundation of her small world and plunging her back into an abyss of despair, until she makes her final bid for escape.

After December 25, 2007, the Redenius family would never be the same again. Just days before, DeAnn had proclaimed to her husband the frustration she felt about the true meaning of Christmas, which was the birth of Christ. This message seemed to have diminished in importance everywhere she looked, whether it was in a store, an advertisement, or in the songs played on a radio station, Jesus seemed to be taken out of Christmas. DeAnn reminded herself what Christmas was really aboutwho Jesus really was and why He came to save mankind in the first place. As she made a promise that night to God that she would make sure everyone knew who Jesus was, DeAnn never thought that she would be called out to deliver His message so soon! It was the phone call they received the night of Christmas that would change the lives of the family forever. DeAnn was later instructed to give her testimony of Jesus Christ in a time of tragedy when her family learned what it truly meant to accept Christs unfailing love and salvation with an indescribable heart of what it truly means to forgive and love one another. Jesus called all to have that Heart like a Child. This is where DeAnns story begins and endswith the message of believing even when Gods ways cannot be seen or understood. In the midst their trials and sufferings, DeAnn and her family chose to look to God and take refuge, for there was hope for a new day.

A brilliant, disturbing portrait of the dawn of the culture wars, when America started to tear itself apart with doubts, wild allegations, and an unfounded fear for the safety of children. During the 1980s in California, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Massachusetts, Florida, Tennessee, Texas, Ohio, and elsewhere, day care workers were arrested, charged, tried, and convicted of committing horrible sexual crimes against the children they cared for. These crimes, social workers and prosecutors said, had gone undetected for years, and they consisted of a brutality and sadism that defied all imagining. The dangers of babysitting services and day care centers became a national news media fixation. Of the many hundreds of people who were investigated in connection with day care and ritual abuse cases around the country, some 190 were formally charged with crimes, leading to more than 80 convictions. It would take years for people to realize what the defendants had said all along -- that these prosecutions were the product of a decade-long outbreak of collective hysteria on par with the Salem witch trials. Social workers and detectives employed coercive interviewing techniques that led children to tell them what they wanted to hear. Local and national journalists fanned the flames by promoting the stories' salacious aspects, while aggressive prosecutors sought to make their careers by unearthing an unspeakable evil where parents feared it most. Using extensive archival research and drawing on dozens of interviews conducted with the hysteria's major figures, n+1 editor Richard Beck shows how a group of legislators, doctors, lawyers, and parents -- most working with the best of intentions -- set the stage for a cultural disaster. The climate of fear that surrounded these cases influenced a whole series of arguments about women, children, and sex. It also drove a right-wing cultural resurgence that, in many respects, continues to this day.

'Beautifully written and produced' 'Packed full of thought-provoking truths' 'A good devotional read or for anyone with a busy schedule' Part-serialised in Quiet Spaces, the prayer and spirituality journal from BRF. Jesus said, 'I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children ... 'These are radical words; potentially life-changing words. Yet how many of us truly believe that we need to become like little children? What might be the implications for our life and faith? As a Child is an exploration of this call to childlikeness, this call to littleness - a call made not to children, but to adults - not to those who are naturally childlike, but to those who have grown out of their childlike nature. It is a book for all who desire to grow in their faith, to enter into all that God has for us, to live the life God wants us to live and to be the people God wants us to be. For all are willing to respond to Jesus' call, and become like a little child.

Christ often used children as examples for believers. He told Nicodemus that unless one is “born again” they cannot see the Kingdom (John 3:3). But what is it about children that makes them a model for the Christian life? Through psychological science, we have learned much about the way children perceive, think, and act from the moment they are born and throughout their childhood. If we apply this knowledge to the theology that Christ brought during His ministry, it becomes clear why the child is the model for faith. In this book, we will see through the child’s eyes and hopefully recapture the wonder we all felt when we first believed. We will walk through childhood together, learning not only about the psychology of children but also insights about our faith, our spiritual growth, the role of the Church, and other important topics. A young boy emerges from life-saving surgery with remarkable stories of his visit to heaven. Heaven Is for Real is the true story of the four-year old son of a small town Nebraska pastor who during emergency surgery slips from consciousness and enters heaven. He survives and begins talking about being able to look down and see the doctor operating and his dad praying in the waiting room. The family didn't know what to believe but soon the evidence was clear. Colton said he met his miscarried sister, whom no one had told him about, and his great grandfather who died 30 years before Colton was born, then shared impossible-to-know details about each. He describes the horse that only Jesus could ride, about how "reaaally big" God and his chair are, and how the Holy Spirit "shoots down power" from heaven to help us. Told by the father, but often in Colton's own words, the disarmingly simple message is heaven is a real place, Jesus really loves children, and be ready, there is a coming last battle.
