Her people uprooted by broken promises. Her heart torn by conflicting desires. The Trail of Tears: The forced exodus of the Cherokee people from their homeland in Georgia to make way for the white gold miners and settlers. Katherine Blue Song's family never lived to see the Trail of Tears. They were massacred just as she returned from Philadelphia, where she'd been one of the country's first women trained as a doctor. Justis Gallatin, a white man, a rough-and-ready miner, was Jesse Blue Song's friend and partner. Before he buried the victims of the massacre, he made a solemn promise to protect Katherine. But the lovely and headstrong Cherokee healer would not be protected or owned by any man. Her destiny was with her own people, to use her skills on the long, arduous journey westward. From plush New York hotels to the savage sorrow of the Trail of Tears, Katherine and Justis are torn asunder by a continent's history and hurled together because of a passion as vast as the lands they love, lost, and fight to regain. The Beloved Woman is the prequel to Follow The Sun, a collection of three contemporary novels about the Gallatin descendants. Deborah Smith is the New York Times and Kindle bestseller of more than thirty-five romance and women's fiction novels. A Place To Call Home has been voted one of the best romance novels of the 20th century in two reader surveys. The Crossroads Café was No. 1 on the Kindle bestseller list, and has more than 700 4.5 star reviews. Learn more about Deborah's books at www.bellbridgebooks.com.

"American Indian women have traditionally played vital roles in social hierarchies, including at the family, clan, and tribal levels. In the Cherokee Nation, specifically, women and men are considered equal contributors to the culture. With this study we learn that three key historical events in the 19th and early 20th centuries-removal, the Civil War, and allotment of their lands-forced a radical renegotiation of gender roles and relations in Cherokee society."--Back cover.

Have you wandered from the life you want to live? Chrystal Evans Hurst shares raw and vulnerable stories from her own life to let you know how you too can find your way back after a few missteps. Over 100,000 copies sold! What happens when a woman looks at herself in the mirror, lingering just a little longer than usual and realizes that she no longer recognizes the person staring back at her? What does she do when she sees that, somehow, her life has drifted away from all her original hopes, dreams, or plans? Speaker, blogger, and writer Chrystal Evans Hurst wrote this book because she was that woman. One day she realized that she had somehow wandered from the life she was meant to live. Chrystal since discovered that this moment of awareness happens to lots of women at different seasons of their lives. Poor decisions, a lack of intentionality or planning, or a long-term denial of deep hopes and dreams can leave a woman, old or young, reeling from the realization that she is lost, disappointed, or simply numb. And she just needs encouragement. This woman simply needs someone to hold her hand, cheer her on, and believe with her that she is still capable of being the person she intended to be. Chrystal uses her poignant story of an early and unexpected pregnancy, as well as other raw and vulnerable moments in her life, to let readers know she understands what it's like to try and find your way after some missteps or decisions you didn't plan on. In She's Still There Chrystal emphasizes the importance of the personal process and the beauty of authentically sharing your journey one girlfriend to another. It’s a book of "me toos," reminders of the hoped for, and challenges for the path ahead--to find direction, purpose, and true satisfaction. Also available: She's Still There DVD series and study guide.

In an era when minorities struggled for recognition, LaDonna Harris and Wilma Mankiller furthered the interests of Native Americans and forged a new place for women in politics by astutely playing accepted notions about ethnicity and gender to their own advantage. In Beloved Women, historian Sarah Eppler Janda examines the public identity these two women created for themselves and how, in turn, their respective identities shaped their political fortunes. Moving beyond the conventional role of a 1950s U.S. senator's wife, Harris discovered opportunities to call attention to the inequalities facing Native Americans. A Comanche, Harris founded activist organizations, testified at congressional hearings, and served on scores of federal committees concerning both women and Native Americans. At the same time, by attributing her humanitarian efforts to tribal values, Harris asserted the relevance of Indian beliefs and customs in modern society. During the heyday of the women's rights movement, Mankiller linked feminist ideas to Cherokee tradition. Indian culture, she asserted, esteems women, as proven by the legendary Beloved Woman who fulfills familial expectations yet also assumes political duties. Mankiller adopted this role when she became the first female chief of the Cherokee Nation in 1985, a position she held for a decade. Harris and Mankiller became national leaders, Janda concludes, in large part because their complex persona--Indian and woman--enabled them to challenge social and political norms.

This is the story of two women who played a pivotal role in the life of Jesus, as we have come to know him: Mary Magdalene and Miriam. To them he was known as Yeshua ben Joseph, or simply Yeshua. The aching desolation left by Yeshua’s death was more than met by the overpowering hope brought by his Resurrection. It was a hope so powerful that it gave voice to a truth long held in silence—God dwells in man. For hope is not wishful thinking. Hope is an active force that sets into motion new ideas and new incentives. It holds the quality of possibility like a shining beacon in the darkness. It urges man upward to a brighter belief and a dedication to create a better way of life. Beloved Women will help you see Jesus through the eyes of the women he loved and to appreciate the role they played in his life.
